January 10, 201115 yr Hi Guys,Here is my planned rig (will be getting it in a few months when the funds allow):Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 big towerAsus P8P67 DeluxeI7-2600K (planned OC to around 4.5 with my Zalman cooler)Evga GTX 580Corsair 120Gb SSD (for OS and FSX)2x WD 1TB 7200 (already have those, considering installing only one of these, as 2TB is a bit of overkill) (for the rest, data etc)Antec CP-1000 PSUDVD-RW (I really don't need blue-ray)Now the question, I was thinking to get 8Gb of ram (4x 2Gb) but I am unsure what speed to buy. I found some Kingston HyperX 2250Mhz that I was considering, but then I got lost in thoughts about what difference it would make over 1600Mhz RAM and came to the conclusion that I simply don't know. Can you guys please let me know what to do?As you can guess, its going to cost me a bundle, I don't want to buy the wrong RAM and have to re-invest when I find out I bought the wrong speed.Looking at this system though, I think it can last me the next 2-3 years nicely.Your suggestions are most welcome! Sander Rutte
January 10, 201115 yr It's hard to say atm, with a few sandy bridges having issues with ram voltages. In the next few months, however, things will be cleared up, bios updates etc. Things will be more certain. Hold off a bit longer. If you can't, an X58 system is the most secure OCable high performance system available.
January 10, 201115 yr ...Hold off a bit longer.SB-Slayer, the OP did start his post saying "In the next few months", didn't he? :-)Cheers,- jahman.
January 10, 201115 yr Author I did say in a few months.. I guess you're right. Things are not yet certain. I saw on the ASUS site that this particular board can handle up to 2200Mhz RAM speeds in OC mode. Will be monitoring this forum in the next months to see what kind of results people are getting. Thanks so far! Sander Rutte
January 10, 201115 yr When you are going latest and greatest, you always have to count with problems. Always.
January 10, 201115 yr SanderI read somewhere (but can't recall where??) that you would need at least 2000MHz at the lowest latency possible.RegardsPeterH
January 10, 201115 yr SanderI read somewhere (but can't recall where??) that you would need at least 2000MHz at the lowest latency possible.RegardsPeterH I think that most P67 mobos will support from 1066MHz up to 2200MHz sticks. This is from ASUS spec for the plain P8P67: DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered MemDo you know if 1600MHz CL6 is slower or faster than 2000MHz CL8?
January 10, 201115 yr There have been some 1.5v modules out for quite some time, just browse Geil, Patriot, Corsair and Kingston and you will find plenty to choose from.Chose a 12GB of fast low latency Ram that operates at 1.5v more than a year ago, simply because of the O/C headroom. When you are going latest and greatest, you always have to count with problems. Always.Agree, with a few exceptions to that.GPUs on a whole do not suffer this fate, however drivers do tend sometimes to take awhile to catch up.BTW You would find the 580 a worthwhile addition to your rig, for some reason the 285 does not seem near as happy to deal with 4Ghz CPUs.
January 10, 201115 yr Author Hi Freebird,I did write GTX 580.. High speed, low latency.. sounds like good advice. As stated, I am only planning on building this rig at the end of spring, or beginning of summer, so I will have plenty of data from those less patient than me whom will pave the way for me.Thanks for your responses so far! January 11, 201115 yr SB-Slayer, the OP did start his post saying "In the next few months", didn't he? :-)Cheers,- jahman. He said IN the next few months. That could be from today, right through till 3 months from today. What I said was to wait, due to the errors, till a time when these are all cleared up, and the SBs are less problematic. Please read posts carefully and make sure you understand them in future before replying.
January 11, 201115 yr I would appreciate if any of you hardware experts could say if 1600MHz CL6 is slower or faster than 2000MHz CL8Thanks
January 11, 201115 yr I would appreciate if any of you hardware experts could say if 1600MHz CL6 is slower or faster than 2000MHz CL8ThanksIn FSX? No difference. RAM speed doesn't matter that much anymore when you're dealing in dual and tri-channel configurations, let alone when quad channel comes out later this year.

January 11, 201115 yr "In FSX? No difference. RAM speed doesn't matter that much anymore when you're dealing in dual and tri-channel configurations, let alone when quad channel comes out later this year."What?Maybe someone is feeling bad about inferior hardware to make those kinds of statements? Of course it makes a difference! It just depends on how much is enough for what you want to spend vs the return. This isnt FSX, but it will give you an idea of what to expect in FSX - Memory test for SandyB:http://www.bit-tech....sandy-bridge/10
