January 17, 201115 yr I stuck to my trusty 9600GT with 512MB for a long time since I was convinced thatwith a [email protected], a videocard upgrade would buy me little (or nothing)..But I could not resist an Asus GTX460 price under $200 and based on some feedbackon these forums that this might actually be a good upgrade, I ordered it..Now that I've had it for a few weeks, I can say: "Really, really nice"!It took the beta nvidia 266.35 drivers to cure some wild graphics anomalies in FSX,but with those drivers installed, the card is rock-solid.Short verdict: I was flying with 24 fps and LOD_Radius=4.5, and now I fly with 30 fpsand LOD_Radius=5.5 - very smooth.I was concerned that my 400W power supply could be a problem, but the card runs coolerthan my old card, and I have yet to see the fan go above it's minimum 20% speed. So, if you are on the fence... Bert
January 18, 201115 yr Heheh. Yeah, mate. I have to agree. I've just upgraded last weekend from a GTX 275 896MB OC to a 2GB Golden Sample GTX460 and I'm happy as a pig in mud! I've moved my sliders up as far as I dare for now and I'm still hitting averages of 40fps flying low over forested terrain. Blinking awesome!! Happy but I'm still going to push the boundaries a little more, as we should. i5 760 @ 4.1GHz on P7P55D-E Pro | 4x 2GB G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 | 2x WD SE16 Caviar SATAII | Gainward GTX460 2GB GS | ThermalTake ToughPower 750W | LG 32LG50FD @ 1920x1080x32 | Windows 7 HP x64 | FSX Deluxe + Acceleration | FTX AU SP3 | FTX NA Blue PNW | REX2 | JF TrafficX | TrackIR
January 21, 201115 yr Author I should mention that the new card has the horsepower to run at 8XSQ without anyfps impact, compared to my old card at 8XS. Awesome IQ! Bert
January 21, 201115 yr Bert, I had been on the fence for a while myself as far as upgrading. I have the same CPU as you and was running an 8800GTfor quite a while. Well after seeing your post I jumped off the fence. The card arrived yesterday and I will say that so far i ampleased. One question though, how are your temps? My card seems to be running a little hot. After about 30 mins in the sim my tempsare around 116 F. Have you noticed this?Glen

January 22, 201115 yr 116 F is not hot, it is barely lukewarm!Mine typically runs at 45 C which is about 115 F Ok, thanks for the info. I realy wasn't sure if that was too hot or not.Glen
January 22, 201115 yr Author Ok, thanks for the info. I realy wasn't sure if that was too hot or not.GlenIf you are watching temperatures... anything up into the 70s C is acceptableand in theory you could run even hotter, but I would not. Bert
January 22, 201115 yr i'am thinking of replacing my gtx 260 to a 1gb gtx 460, does it worth? i have 15-20 fps at big airports, or big cities. 10 fps gain enough to me. Cenk Demir Besiktas JK 1903
January 23, 201115 yr I went from a 8800gt to a 260 core216 and didn't notice a huge difference in frame rate but I could turn things up a little more with out the old slow down I used to experience and weather no longer slowed be down either. So if any one has not moved up to a gtx260 or better, you have better get one on order cause its definitely worth the upgrade.I also experience the 15fps range in big city airports w/ max graphics and wonder if a 460 or 570 is worth the upgrade or just save up for sandy bridge?
