You need the APU to be running before the panel lights will turn on.It's best to start at a gate and have a play with starting from cold and dark. You'll learn how to taxi to the runway too.

Look to your front left or if you haven't changed the default FSX key, which is 'L', then it's probably ok.Else do as Richard says. It's harder but great reward at the end.

Not quite...you need to establish electrical supply correctly first...EXT PWR #1 & #2 will suffice. The APU can be started later.

Let's assume nothing is wrong with your airplane. This is looking in the upper-left corner of your overhead panel. Ensure both items in Red are as shown. Then you may choose between external power (only at a gate) and the APU. For external power, select the orange circle. For APU, rotate the upper dial in blue to the full right position. It will then automatically switch back to the center. Wait approxametly 1 minute for the APU PWR switch to elluminate, then click it. The panels should now come on. If this doesn't work, there are many fixes to try, such as the Flight1 Registry Repair (which I don't have a link to), the 747 repair option through control panel/programs, and others.PS, remember to put your last name as well. Addition: To get to Cold and Dark. Right click. Un-check the "Hide Menu Bar" if it isn't already. Go to Add Ons, PMDG, Panel State, and press load. Then select Cold and Dark for the 747 model you are flying. There is a difference between Passenger and Freighter versions.
