VC Night Lighting

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,Love the airplane! This is already my favorate piston twin in FSX! Quick question: I like my VC at night to be as dark as posible. I noticed I get a blue haze light when I turn the battery switch on. Is there a way to disable that? In other words, I'd like to have just the intruments and avionics lights on, not any "dome" light effect in the VC. Is there a way to do that? To see what I'm talking about, simply pull up the VC and turn the battery switch on and off and you'll see what I'm taking about. Thanks guys. See Yah!Ray Lemus

Ray,I had the same complaint. Your options are to delete the dome light entirely, or to do what I did and map it to another type of light that can be controlled separately separately.Go to the C340's aircraft.cfg file. Under the [LIGHTS] section, find the following line:light.8 = 4, -9.90, 0.00, 1.30, fx_vclightcarc31,You can...a. Remove it entirelyb. Start by changing the "4" to a "9". This will map the dome light to FS's "logo light" function, rather than the panel lights. Go to FSUIPC (assuming you have the registered version), and map a key combination to the "Toggle Logo Light" function.Hopefully one of this will get you what you're after.Best,David

David, Thanks dude for the reply. I'll try option "a", since is the most simple approach. I'll post on the result. Thanks again man. See Yah!Ray

Dude that worked! Instead of deleting the line however, I decided to put “//” in front of the line. Just in case I need it later or something. But that got me exactly what I was looking for Dave. Thanks man. See Yah!Ray

If you're going to go to that much effort, why not use type number 10, which is so cleverly assigned to "Cabin Lights..." :(

Hey heyheyheyhey...don't get smart now. :( They're already using 10 for the courtesy lights.

Hi,Sorry to but in here, but i wanted to ask Fr Bill about the night lights while the topic was being discussed :( Does the c340 use the good night lights as discussed in your emissive texture article? The style of lights that glow properly, even when the cockpit is shadowed in daytime?http://www.flightsim.com/fswiki/index.php?title=FSX_-_Emissive_TexturesThanks in advanceDavid Ranieri.

3d modeled gauges can't use any of those techniques. Only the "screens" could possibly take advantage of the techniques described in that paper.

I understand, only 2d style gauges assigned to a vcockpitxx entry would use those methods. :( Ive always wondered whether a material can be assigned in gmax or 3dsmax that remains bright all the time without being bound to light maps which only work after a certain point at dusk. And what you could do is make two identical models of say a light bulb, one of them with a normal material and one with a bright material and set the conditions so that for example, if the oil pressure is low then display the bright model and turn the normal model off, then if oil pressure is good then turn the normal model on and turn the bright model off. That way lights will look bright even in day time shadows or at night when the cockpit lighting is not on. Is this possible?David.

Yes David, that's precisely how it can be done. The "Additive" property will cause the textured object to be "self-illuminated" brightly at all times. In fact, all "glass screens" should use this technique. One can also add a separate "gauge" to provide variable backlighting if desired.Actually though, this discussion properly belongs in the "Aircraft and Panel Design Forum." :(

Thank you for taking the time to comfirm that for me. Every time i saw wayward lighting i would wonder 'why dont they do it this way!, why not that way!' :( Carenados modelling and textures are 1st class, i just wish the night lighting was more solid. Thanks againDavid.
