Fresh install FSX great except airspeed fluctuation

Featured Replies

I just did a clean OS and FSX Acceleration install on my older machine (Dell Dimension 9200, 2.4 quad 4G ram ENGT240 video) and everything is running great but I am getting pretty wild fluctuations on my airspeed indicators on all aircraft, both defaults and addons. I fly mostly medium jetliners like the 737, and I'll be cruising along at 200 knots getting ready for an approach, and my speed will jump very briefly to say 215 or even higher for a split second. About every 2 to 3 seconds. It does seem to be related to changes in winds, and if I set my own weather to just a constant wind in a particular direction, I don't get this. I do own the pay version of FSUIPC, and have been playing with it's wind features a little, but I'd like to know if anyone else has this issue and if there is anything besides using FSUIPC that I can do about it.I used to only very occasionally see this on my previous install, which was set up the same as how I have it now. But now it seems to be pretty bad with any real world weather I am flying in. That's what's weird about it. Why now? Thanks.

I recently noticed this as well. I attributed it to a new weather program (Open Clouds) I started using.I assume it does no wind smoothing. Maybe? - I don't know. I see it often - It is a bit annoying.

Sounds like gusts. If they were smaller and much faster it would be turbulence, which would also affect the heading slightly too. Check the weather. You can read it in FS. It should show whether gusts and turbulence are active. Maybe it's to do with the actual weather this time of year in the areas you are flying.Pete

Thanks for your replies. It seems the weather has moderated a little since posting. I am seeing fluctuations that correspond to gusts, but nowhere near as bad as it was for a couple of days.
