New FS Computer / Thinking Standalone FSX-SE
So I spent the 3-day weekend putting the OS and FSX-SE and my addons on the new PC. It was, as usual, a pain in the neck! But I am VERY pleased with the results. So far, the only addon that has issues is the PMDG JS4100, and they have stated that a fix will be coming for that when they are done with the new 747. The new system rocks! I am running with almost all sliders max, except for I have max texture set to 30cm (and my UTX USA are set to 30cm also). I don't run lens flare or light bloom because I don't really like the effects. Running with frames locked at 40. The CS 777 dips into the mid to low 30s occasionally in clouds, but the old system used to be a slide show with that plane in anything but clear weather and rural areas. NYC was a no go with that plane before! The one thing I had to do with the PMDG NGX at JFK was turn off scenery ground shadows. That made a huge difference. It was a little choppy on takeoff with shadows on. Smooth as silk with them off. The only changes I made to the .cfg file were WideViewAspect and Highmemfix. I am not a big frame-rate watcher--I just want smooth performance. I can't get over how smooth it is running. Really nice.

New FS Computer / Thinking Standalone FSX-SE
It seems like the JS4100 might be the problem child. I think I might try installing FSX-SE and try the JS4100 in it and if it's a no go, just go with Boxed+Acceleration.

New FS Computer / Thinking Standalone FSX-SE
I have a new i5 based computer coming to upgrade my flight sim setup. I plan to use a standalone install of FSX-SE. I wanted to see if anyone is aware of any compatibility or install issues with my addons: Orbx FTX Global and Scotland UTX USA Active Sky Next Rex Soft Clouds Payware FSUIPC Aerosoft Airbus A318/319 and A320/321 CaptainSim 707 CaptainSim 727 CaptainSim 737 CaptainSim 777 CaptainSim L1011 Coolsky DC-9 PMDG MD-11 PMDG JS4100 PMDG 737NGX QuailityWings 757 QualityWings BAe-146/Avro CLS MD-80 Feelthere ERJ-135/145 Majestic Q400 All of Dave Maltby's freeware jets (Trident, BAC-111, Comet, VC-10) I think that's it. Also any other tips / caveats / jeers / encouragement would be welcome! I am going to be running under Win 7-64 Pro. I do own FSX-Boxed and Acceleration disks, but I'd like to go with Steam going forward.

Question about VNAV descent and ATC vectors - slow descent problem.
When flying with the default ATC I almost always use VNAV to climb, then FLCH to follow descent instructions from ATC. The exception is when I am using an RNAV approach (which the default ATC does ok at, as long as things haven't changed too much since 2006). With an RNAV approach, you can often switch back to VNAV when you are on the approach.

Thinking to get Captain Sim L1011, Milviz 737 or Carenado PC12.
If you like the older analog jetliners, check out the Coolsky DC-9. It has system depth and realism, not to mention great looks, sound, and flight model. It is as good as anything else out there.

Thinking to get Captain Sim L1011, Milviz 737 or Carenado PC12.
The INS in the CS L1011 is not limited to 9 waypoints. It actually has your FSX flight plan pre-loaded, all you have to do is initialize and align it.

MD 11 not available?
I know, right? I do sometimes fly the River Visual for 19. That's a hoot.

MD 11 not available?
Nice!

MD 11 not available?
Just a follow-up to my post about getting this plane while I still had the chance: I am really glad I did! I bought the JS4100 at the same time, so I played with the prop first and I started messing with the MD11 on Friday. I really like the plane. Very nice job, PMDG. I feel sorry for anyone who might have liked this bird that won't be able to get it in the future, but that's that. I just finished a flight from LGA to DCA and did the RNAV 19. I didn't come out of the clouds until I was at around 1000 feet. It was a thrill and I nailed the turn to final and greased it!

Load Sheet Default values
Yes, and it is pretty cool. But I was wondering what determines what numbers are on it when you first load the plane?

Load Sheet Default values
So now that I have got through some growing pains with this amazing plane, I was wondering if the Load Sheet always has the same default values for every flight, or does it depend on some user-controllable factor? Thanks!

Trouble with Start Locks
I think it is working now. I'm not sure what I did, but I loaded the default cessna, started it up, loaded the JS, shut it down, and proceeded as normal and it worked.

Trouble with Start Locks
Hi all. New to the plane, I have completed several flights, but something is going very wrong with all my attempts today. Not sure what I am doing differently, but I am having issues with the start locks and with starting the engines in general. I have done the tutorial flight successfully. I have read the startup guide pinned in this forum, and I have been using it as a guide for starting the engines. I pull both power levers to reverse, then use the un-feather switch to un-feather both props. I visually watch them go to the flat disk from the side. I then hit F1 to put the power levers in the start position. Condition levers are in the Taxi position. I then turn on the fuel pumps, turn avionics off, turn the Start Master to left gnd, and start the engine. Same thing for the other side. Then after they settle down, fuel pumps off, avionics back on, SLOWLY pull each power lever back into reverse, I get the callout for start locks disengaged. Then hit F1 to return to idle. I get the callout, but the props stay in the start lock position!

MD 11 not available?
Thanks, pcubine. Amazon has the boxed version for $55.00, so I went ahead and took the plunge. I downloaded the update you provided the link for, just in case. So now I am watching Youtube videos for how to fly her. Can't wait! I was actually browsing the PMDG website and thinking about getting the JS4100 when I noticed there were no links for the MD11X. I'm so glad that I found out they stopped selling it and grabbed a copy.

MD 11 not available?
If I am able to find a boxed version for sale, are there updates needed for it to be the latest version?

ERJ throttle
For descent, try a setting of around 70% N1 above 10000 feet, and around 50-55% N1 below 10000. That works pretty well for me in most conditions.

Majestic Q400 vs. PMDG 737NGX (Which easier to master)
The QW757 does have VNAV. Maybe you were thinking of the Just Flight Freemium (which does lack VNAV).

Majestic Q400 vs. PMDG 737NGX (Which easier to master)
I have and love the QW146. Not quite as complex as the PMDG NGX, which I also own, but it has plenty to learn to get it up and running. It is a little buggy compared to most of the other planes that have been mentioned in this thread. Most issues have workarounds, but it can be maddening trying to learn it when some things really don't behave like the manuals or forum posts from admns say they do. But it is a really great package for the money, and a blast to fly. One other fantastic and complex plane is the Coolsky DC-9. No FMC at all, only 2 NAV radios and an ADF! But it is gorgeous, flies beautifully, and has loads of features like a navigation tutorial function to help you learn VOR and Airway navigation, and a really cool failure simulator. Excellent software! I was afraid of the NGX when it first came out, and that was silly. Once I got it, I was surprised at how easy it was to get up and running. I don't own the Q400, but I am going to get it for Christmas!

Ozark Airlines Mid-seventies DC-9-30 Aircraft
They did have a few routes that were a little longer, like CMI-LGA, CMI-SAN, CMI-IAD. But you are correct, they did have some fairly short routes. Heck, given that I think they purchased most of their aircraft used from other airlines, they may have had some with, some without INS. I'd love to know for sure.

Ozark Airlines Mid-seventies DC-9-30 Aircraft
Hi all. My home airline was Ozark (CMI). Most commonly, we would get a DC-9-30 or -40 aircraft on most flights. I am trying to find out if these aircraft were equipped with an INS type navigation system, or were they strictly VOR/NDB radio navigation?

Looking for a good regional jet/turboproop
+1 for the QW 146/RJ. Really fun to fly and a great value. It can go anywhere a turboprop can go.

Seeking To Improve Sky/Weather FPS Friendly
Yes, ASN gets pretty real sometimes. My first complete flight with it was KMEM-KMSY, just picked it out randomly from the flights I like to do. I ended up descending into New Orleans in a thunderstorm and it was actually kind of scary! I also bought REX Soft Clouds, which were also on sale when I got ASN. Very nice.

Seeking To Improve Sky/Weather FPS Friendly
+1. Excellent freeware program. Very little hit on performance on my modest machine. I have since upgraded to ASN because I wanted WX radar in the PMDG 737, and it also seems to run quite well without a major performance hit.

cannot uninstall / reinstall FSX SE
Which version of UTX did you purchase? The latest 2.1 version supports Steam.
