  1. The QW RJ does have a follow GPS plan option in "lite" mode. You can also tell the FMC to load your GPS plan and it will follow it. I have the JF 146, and it is OK, but I actually haven't even installed it in my last couple of FSX setups. I like the QW offering much more. It isn't perfect, but it is very, very nice and really fun to fly.
  2. QW has modified the latest version of the installer to properly handle installing into FSX-SE. As the other poster said, it works fine. I've had the plane for a while. It is a nice package for the money.
  3. I'm wondering what else I can check for. The fx_smoke_f6 file is in the effects folder. The appropriate lines are present in the aircraft file. The gauge that is referred to in the panel cfg under one of the VC sections is there in the cabinet file like it should be. All other aircraft with smoke features are working, including the ones that require a certain level of thrust, like the Trident. Is there a texture file somewhere that I could be missing? Other than that, what could cause this? The smoke definitely worked in FSX-Boxed when I applied these mods in that setup.
  4. No, running DX9. Not sure what a PEBCAK error is. But yes, I was surprised when the effect didn't work. This is pretty much a brand new install. Haha, just googled PEBCAK error. Nice.
  5. I switched my FSX to a new computer and installed the BAC 111 and these fine mods into a new FSX Steam standalone install. It seems like I'm not getting the new fx_smoke_f6 effect. It is installed in the "effects" folder, and the [smokesystem] section is in the aircraft file like it should be, referencing the fx_smoke_f6 files, but no joy. Can anyone confirm if they are getting smoke in FSX Steam from the BAC111 modded?
  6. I just made the switch. These add-ons are fine: Aerosoft A318/319/320/321 CS 727 CS 737 CS 777 CS L1011 CLS MD-80 Coolsky DC-9 Feelthere ERJ-135/145 QW 757 QW 146/RJ PMDG NGX PMDG MD-11 Majestic Q400 ORBX FTX Global ORBX EU Scotland UTX USA Active Sky 2016 REX Soft Clouds The only one of my add-ons that has an issue is the PMDG JS4100, which PMDG has said they will fix once the 747 v2 is out.
  7. So I spent the 3-day weekend putting the OS and FSX-SE and my addons on the new PC. It was, as usual, a pain in the neck! But I am VERY pleased with the results. So far, the only addon that has issues is the PMDG JS4100, and they have stated that a fix will be coming for that when they are done with the new 747. The new system rocks! I am running with almost all sliders max, except for I have max texture set to 30cm (and my UTX USA are set to 30cm also). I don't run lens flare or light bloom because I don't really like the effects. Running with frames locked at 40. The CS 777 dips into the mid to low 30s occasionally in clouds, but the old system used to be a slide show with that plane in anything but clear weather and rural areas. NYC was a no go with that plane before! The one thing I had to do with the PMDG NGX at JFK was turn off scenery ground shadows. That made a huge difference. It was a little choppy on takeoff with shadows on. Smooth as silk with them off. The only changes I made to the .cfg file were WideViewAspect and Highmemfix. I am not a big frame-rate watcher--I just want smooth performance. I can't get over how smooth it is running. Really nice.
  8. Thanks, Paul. That is wonderful news! The JS4100 is amazing.
  9. It seems like the JS4100 might be the problem child. I think I might try installing FSX-SE and try the JS4100 in it and if it's a no go, just go with Boxed+Acceleration.
  10. Thanks guys. I had seen one other thread about this, and was hoping one of the devs might jump in here and give me hope. Not having the plane work properly would be a deal breaker. I rely on IAS mode a lot on takeoff. I hate to forego a FSX Steam install for just one plane, but it happens to be one of my absolute favorites! I suppose I could keep my computer that is being replaced and leave FSX-Boxed on it with the JS4100 and get a KVM switch to go between the two, but that's kind of a cumbersome solution.
  11. As the title implies, I was wondering if the JS4100 current version will work with a stand-alone install of FSX-SE?
  12. I have a new i5 based computer coming to upgrade my flight sim setup. I plan to use a standalone install of FSX-SE. I wanted to see if anyone is aware of any compatibility or install issues with my addons: Orbx FTX Global and Scotland UTX USA Active Sky Next Rex Soft Clouds Payware FSUIPC Aerosoft Airbus A318/319 and A320/321 CaptainSim 707 CaptainSim 727 CaptainSim 737 CaptainSim 777 CaptainSim L1011 Coolsky DC-9 PMDG MD-11 PMDG JS4100 PMDG 737NGX QuailityWings 757 QualityWings BAe-146/Avro CLS MD-80 Feelthere ERJ-135/145 Majestic Q400 All of Dave Maltby's freeware jets (Trident, BAC-111, Comet, VC-10) I think that's it. Also any other tips / caveats / jeers / encouragement would be welcome! I am going to be running under Win 7-64 Pro. I do own FSX-Boxed and Acceleration disks, but I'd like to go with Steam going forward.
  13. When flying with the default ATC I almost always use VNAV to climb, then FLCH to follow descent instructions from ATC. The exception is when I am using an RNAV approach (which the default ATC does ok at, as long as things haven't changed too much since 2006). With an RNAV approach, you can often switch back to VNAV when you are on the approach.
  14. If you like the older analog jetliners, check out the Coolsky DC-9. It has system depth and realism, not to mention great looks, sound, and flight model. It is as good as anything else out there.
  15. The INS in the CS L1011 is not limited to 9 waypoints. It actually has your FSX flight plan pre-loaded, all you have to do is initialize and align it.
  16. I know, right? I do sometimes fly the River Visual for 19. That's a hoot.
  17. Just a follow-up to my post about getting this plane while I still had the chance: I am really glad I did! I bought the JS4100 at the same time, so I played with the prop first and I started messing with the MD11 on Friday. I really like the plane. Very nice job, PMDG. I feel sorry for anyone who might have liked this bird that won't be able to get it in the future, but that's that. I just finished a flight from LGA to DCA and did the RNAV 19. I didn't come out of the clouds until I was at around 1000 feet. It was a thrill and I nailed the turn to final and greased it!
  18. Hi Paul. Thanks for the info on putting the gauge in the CS L1011 and the 707 and 727! For some reason, the mouse-over spots are not working for me in either the L1011 or the 707. They work fine in the 727 (all variants, -100, -100F, -200, -200F). The radar itself is fine in the L1011 and 707, just doesn't seem to be a way to turn on/off or adjust. Can you confirm if the clickspots work for you in the L1011 and 707?
  19. Yes, and it is pretty cool. But I was wondering what determines what numbers are on it when you first load the plane?
  20. Thanks Roland for your awesome free gauge! I thought I'd post what I worked out for the Quality Wings Avro/146: If you want the gauge to appear within the dummy GPS shell in the VC: gaugexx=RolasnRadar!ORadGauge,470,513,298,215, sweep|beam|icing|starton And if you want to use the shell that Roland supplied with the gauge you do this: gaugexx=RolasnRadar!ShellRadGauge, 442,482,395,327, sweep|beam|icing|starton I have found that I have to have the Fwd Console and Aft Console lights (on the pedestal) turned ON for the controls to work for either configuration.
  21. So now that I have got through some growing pains with this amazing plane, I was wondering if the Load Sheet always has the same default values for every flight, or does it depend on some user-controllable factor? Thanks!
  22. I think it is working now. I'm not sure what I did, but I loaded the default cessna, started it up, loaded the JS, shut it down, and proceeded as normal and it worked.
  23. Hi all. New to the plane, I have completed several flights, but something is going very wrong with all my attempts today. Not sure what I am doing differently, but I am having issues with the start locks and with starting the engines in general. I have done the tutorial flight successfully. I have read the startup guide pinned in this forum, and I have been using it as a guide for starting the engines. I pull both power levers to reverse, then use the un-feather switch to un-feather both props. I visually watch them go to the flat disk from the side. I then hit F1 to put the power levers in the start position. Condition levers are in the Taxi position. I then turn on the fuel pumps, turn avionics off, turn the Start Master to left gnd, and start the engine. Same thing for the other side. Then after they settle down, fuel pumps off, avionics back on, SLOWLY pull each power lever back into reverse, I get the callout for start locks disengaged. Then hit F1 to return to idle. I get the callout, but the props stay in the start lock position!
