CH to Saitek Conversion

Featured Replies

I've recently switched from CH yoke to Saitek Pro Flight yoke and have some problems. Just wondering if anyone else has had this...The yoke itself I MUCH prefer - the build quality seems vastly better than the CH.However, the problem I have is that the 'HAT' switch for panning is on the opposite side to CH model. It seems I just can't get use to it and end up often in a real mess trying to get the right possition. Sounds silly I know, but it can be disastrous when on short final at places like Kai Tak:Black Eye: I'm right handed and the CH yoke had the switch on the right. Could that be the issue, or do think time and practice will get me there eventually with the Saitek? Thanks

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

I always used to fly with a joystick, so right hand on the stick (and HAT switch) and left on the throttle. Then i upgraded to the saitek yoke and found myself with my left hand on the yoke (and HAT switch!) and right hand on the throttle. Initially it was very hard and uncomfortable, but after a few GA flights i became used to it and now have much more refined control in my left hand because of it! I am right handed by the way, just give it time and it will soon fit .

If you use FSUIPC4, you can assign hat switch positions to any FSX commands you wish.Cheers,- jahman.

I'm aware of that but, great as FSUIPC is, it doesn't 'phyically' move the HAT switch from left to right

When on final try and keep your right hand on your engine controls all the way in. You´ll learn to use your left hand soon enough. Otherwise concider TrackIR, does wonders to the whole sim experience.Bjorn

Much as I'd love to try Track-IR, I just can't bring myself to wear a bloody cap when I'm flying (or any time come to that :Just Kidding: )

Would that mean nose and ear reflective jewelry is out of the question?Cheers,- jahman.

If you pierced your forehead and nose according to positions required for TIR, I see no problem ;-)There is also a clip-on-the-headphones thingy for TIR if baseball caps are right out. :-)B

Piercing is out for me and I didn't like wearing a hat as well. But I did get used to my golf visor and stapled the reflectors to the bill of the visor. The visor allows for a cooler head. One day I may change to the clip-on. But now, the visor works just fine.Jim D.

Just the thing for you, then :Batting Eyelashes: http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm IR-free head tracking, you "only" need a webcam.B

If you wear headphones for VATSIM, you can get the Track Clip PRO that clips to your favourite headset.Cheers,- jahman.
