February 8, 201115 yr Good morning,I've looked at improving my hardware a bit as my FSX with my current set up is running very slow (see signature).First of all I was looking at the CPU and I was thinking that maybe an overclocked E8500 or E8600 would be a nice solution. However, also the i7s seem to work well with FSX and I was specifically looking at the i7 930, overclocked as well - however, I would only use air cooling.Of course the quad cores might be better, but is a price tag of £250 really worth it? This means I would not be able to invest as much into a graphics card and my HD4650 really needs to retire.Which one would you take if you also had to buy a graphics card and wanted to stay under £400?Thanks in advance,Doc FSX --- Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 overclocked to 3GHz --- HD4650 --- 4GB DDR2 Memory --- Vista 32 Bit Addon Aircraft: Wilco A318-321, Wilco 737 Classic, Wilco 777, Carenado Beech F33A Bonanza Addon Scenery: Aerosoft Bremen, Aerosoft Maldives X, Aerosoft Gibraltar X Addon Utilities: Radar Contact 4, SuperTrafficBoard Others that I can't remember ;-)
February 8, 201115 yr Well with an i7 you'll likely need a new motherboard... so you must factor the cost of that in.But I'd say the 930 is the best bang for the buck, especially once you overclock it. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
