Sorry to bump such an old thread but I do have this problem, I noticed a huge fps loss when looking at the dark runway skid marks, I removed the fx_skidmark fx file but i still have the skidmarks on the runway, I use rex anyone have any idea?

Hi to @lland thanks for sharing this information. Although I don't have FPS drop issues I checked this file. When I look inside this effect-file there is a link to a file called "fx_wake_1.bmp". This file is located also in the FSXEffectsTexture directory.I examined this file by opening it with Dxtbmp. This is a 128x128 16bit bitmap in DXT5 format. Its file size in my case is 21.914 Bytes.Just wanted to share this information with you, so you can compare with your file.Clear skies,Pegasus.
