February 28, 201115 yr The ATC function of my FS9 has just thrown a couple of new problem at me.1) Endless loop. I am on an instrument approach to a field in IMC, when an ai aircraft operating VFR calls the tower. He gets the standard "airport under IFR - request denied" response....but a few seconds later he calls again. And again. And again. I'll have to say, the controller is remarkably patient, giving the same "request denied" response over and over, too. (I almost expect him to say, "request denied, you deaf idiot!", after the fourth or fifth time!2) Leapfrog on finalWhile a few miles out on an ILS final, with landing clearance in an 80knt approach speed aircraft, an ai jet calls the tower and reports 7 or 8 miles out. The tower clears him, #2, and I get nervous. This guy will surely overtake me, but instead of him getting a "go around", he suddenly whizzes by about 100 feet above me and proceeds to land! In real life, he would have his ticket suspended, but I'm going to be merciful; I'd just like to have no repeats.Anyone know the cause(s) of these? Better yet, the fixes? Thanks guys!
February 28, 201115 yr For #2 get AI Smooth v.1.20 which works in FS9 and FSX from the FSX utilities section of the library here. In addition to user control of approach AI separation it offer an option, User Plane Response, to protect user aircraft from AI.See how that works. It requires a version of FSUIPC and should register itself. If you do not already have it get it as follows:Get the base FSUIPC version from:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland then interim update from the modules link on this page:http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/FSUIPC now self installs initially based on your registry entry for your FS path. Check that with this free utility:FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool (36KB) from http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library
March 1, 201115 yr Problem # 1 is built into the ATC programming. I doubt you can fix it, along with the equally annoying continual call to an AI aircraft that they are above/below their assigned altitude. But if you do find a solution, I'd love to hear it.Problem # 2 will be greatly helped by AISmooth but not eliminated. Sometimes alcohol or drug impaired pilots flying AI aircraft will just be a fact of life to be dealt with. Other than going into an orbit and letting them land and taxi clear, you can sometimes solve it by hitting the slew command. Your aircraft will stay still in it's current location but the sim will continue running and you can wait until you think you have enough seperation to follow the rogue aircraft in to land with enough time for him to taxi clear of the runway. Trouble there is that all the traffic continues to move so if there's someone close behind you, then you'll have to deal with them as well.In these kinds of cases it seems to me that FS9 is just keeping to it's claim to be "as real as it gets" but in this case it's not real life ATC (the accident rate would be horrendous) but just real life. There's always some jerk ready to jump to the front of the line! :(

March 3, 201115 yr As others have said, there's no permanent fix for the first problem (although you could create the phrase "request denied, you ****" with EditVoicePack...). AISmooth does a pretty good job with the second.A simpler way to solve both problems, though, is to increase the simulation rate to at least 8x (alt / options / simulation rate). It only needs to be for a fraction of a second. That clears all AI traffic; setting it back to 1x (normal) reloads the traffic, but AI aircraft are then further away. So your annoying VFR pilot isn't close enough to the field to ask for the landing clearance s/he won't get, and the airliner that was cutting you up on final is now still in contact with approach.OK, nothing which involves making time run 8 times faster and having planes disappear in the process is realistic either. But it does work.
March 4, 201115 yr You can also advance the FS time by one minute to reload AI. Paid full feature registration of FSUIPC3 has an AI toggle that you can use to reload traffic assignable to a hot key. It also includes a traffic-zapper function to erase an AI aircraft in front of you.
