Sandy Bridge defect

Featured Replies

How has everyone coped with the Sandy Bridge defect? Done the workaround? Or replaced their MOBO? Or waiting for new chipset MOBO? I haven't done anything but will eventually.

Been using the Intel SATA 2 ports since day 1. No problem so far. It's probably way too soon to start coming across faulty ports

Yeah but I've noticed some weird things going on with my computer and it sounds like the hard drives get locked up. I don't know if it's a stupid virus (already!!) or the problem kicking in. Like it will be as simple as opening up a folder or firefox. The computer just sits there and thinks a long time and then starts moving, but I can hear something clicking down there like with the hard drives. I don't know. Building a computer has been such a headache. FSX just crashed on me a few minutes ago! Ahhhhh....... I think the problem is affecting mine already. I'm going to talk to the guy who built my computer and find out some more information.

Have you tried switching the affected hard drive to one of the Sata III ports?

I thought the hard drive had to be specifically able to do that. You can't plug a SATA 3 hard drive into a SATA 6 right?

SATA 3 is backwards compatible, so you can hook up your SATA 2 drive there. Not a problem

Yes you can. (will work at SATA3 speed)

well, it will run at the same speed David. A SATA 2 drive needs the SATA 2 interface to work. The port will simply switch to SATA 2
well, it will work on the SATA 2 interface, but at the same speed David (I take it you meant to say SATA 2)
Lol! Yes Dario, it's five AM here and I think I seriously need a second coffee !!

haha, also 5 am here, but actually my remark about yor reference to SATA 3 was wrong since SATA 3 is the port we're talking about. I was editing that part but you were faster

 So let's drink a virtual double coffee together!
