March 22, 201115 yr Hello,By default the file FS9.cfg is located here:C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9Be sure you allow "see hidden and system files" in the files options of your explorerNotice:I have no boots and don't go in a camp :( Regards.Gus.
March 22, 201115 yr Author OK, thanks for the tip. I found the config file and did the 3 recommended tweaks. I'm a little confused because I don't know how you get the large numbers for tweak #2 and 3. And where does the 400 come from on tweak #3?I multiplied my VRAM (512MB) by 1024 and used that number for tweak 2 (I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT). I didn't see any difference. The scenery (i.e. the trees) still seem jittery. Building are fine. Distant scenery seems jittery, Im thinking from the trees. FPS seems good - the sim is very smooth (I didn't check FPS - how do you do that?)Any thoughts?Todd Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3

FPS seems good - the sim is very smooth (I didn't check FPS - how do you do that?)I suppose you mean "shimmering" ...Set 4 for anisotropic filter in your graphic card setting and in FS2004 display setting and check if improvementFPS Use keys SHIFT - Z (it's a toggle)Keep pushing on shift when pushing on Z :( Infos will appears on the up left corner of monitor screen :( Regards.Gus.
March 22, 201115 yr Service Pack for what? Fs9? It's the FS 9.1 update.Yeah, that's what I was referring to.Make sure you have version 9.1... if it's 9.0, you have to get the update from the microsoft website. The scenery looks good but it looks a little 'jittery.' Any way to correct this? With regards to shimmering, as Gus has said, keep your in game Mip Mapping setting on 4.Leave anti-aliasing unchecked, and select filtering Trilinear. Then in Catalyst Control Panel, uncheck "Application Controlled" for anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, and set them at 4x and 16x respectively.Select adaptive AA also. March 22, 201115 yr Author Gus,Thanks for the tips!Shimmering is a better description for the trees. Last night when I was typing, jittery was the only word I could think of at the time!I'll see if I can access my graphics card settings-not sure how to do that.Any idea how to come up with the number used for tweak #3 in the FS9 tweak thread?Once again, thanks for all the help!Paul, What is catalyst control panel and how do I access it?Thanks for everyone's help and patience. March 22, 201115 yr Author Can't install Catalyst. I get a message saying installation failed. What gives? Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3
March 23, 201115 yr Author OK, finally got the newest drivers installed successfully. However, I can't find the Catalyst Controller anywhere. Suggestions? Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3
March 23, 201115 yr Author Well, not able to access the Catalyst Control Center. Maybe it's a Mac compatibility thing, I don't know. However, I did make the changes suggested by others in FS2004 setting menu - MIP to 4, uncheck antialiasing, and trilinear. Tree shimmering is gone! Thanks for those suggestions!:Applause:Next will be the tweaks suggested by Gary.:Praying:Todd Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3
March 23, 201115 yr Author I did the tweaks you suggested, Gary, and didn't see any visual difference. My FPS is around 50-60. The good news is the shimmering is gone as I mentioned in my last post and I'm pretty happy with the way it looks so far. This is kind of picky, and there may be no way around this, but I fine the horizon edge is a little jagged, as are the edges of the aircraft and panel. Maybe this is what you get in the default scenery and aircraft, I don't know. It's not enough to affect my enjoyment, though.Next step is to add Ult terrain and GE Pro.I'm well on my way. Everyone's been a huge help so far.:( Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3
March 23, 201115 yr Hello,Maybe this can help .....Go there:http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/ati-catalyst/pages/ati-catalyst-control-center.aspxPut your pointer on "support and drivers"Component category ... at the end is Mac Graphic to choiceProduct line ... Boot CampChoice also your product model ...And choice your operating system .....Hope it's help !Regards.Gus.
March 23, 201115 yr the horizon edge is a little jagged, as are the edges of the aircraft and panelIf you get Catalyst (CCC for short) installed, there will be an icon on the bottom...or else just right click on the desktop.Once you set the anti-aliasing (AA), the jagged lines will go away.good luck! Athlon X3 450 3.2Ghz, 4GB 7-7-7-24 RAM, ATI 5750 1GB video card, Win 7 64
March 23, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the tip on installing drivers. I downloaded the Mac Boot Camp version and it loaded w/o problem. Now I can access CCC.So here's what is set:Anti-aliasing: Application settings left UNCHECKED; Level was already set to 4XAnisotropic filtering: Application setting left UNCHECKED; Level already set to 16XCatalyst A.I. left UNCHECKEDMipmap Detail Level left at High Quality settingWait for Vertical Refresh: slider bar set at 1 notch right of 'Performance' settingAdaptive anti-aliasing ENABLED and the slider bar set at max QualityOpen GL Settings: Triple Buffering left UNCHECKEDI loaded FS and the jagged edges on the horizon edge and aircraft are gone but the panel edge is still jagged. So, overall it's good. However, now my FPS has dropped to around 20 and below. What next? Regards, Todd Harrell Computer: i7 3770k @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, 750W PSU, 250 GB SSD (Win 7), 500 GB SSD (P3D), 2 x 1TB HDD, 28-inch Viewsonic 1080p monitor Sim: P3Dv3
March 23, 201115 yr Back off the Adaptive AA slider one notch, so that is to the left. That is a killer on FPS in FS. Many panels are not smooth no matter what your settings.
March 23, 201115 yr Author So I backed off the adaptive AA slider and that did the trick FPS now 30 in dense areas with no effect on scenery quality (at least that I can tell). I made the 3 tweaks in the fs9.cfg file and I made the changes Hugo suggested in he terrain.cfg file. Can't say I see a hug difference, although I did all of this at the same time so who really knows. One thing I didn't change is default texture count - I'll try changing that to 4333 and see what happens...
