March 11, 201115 yr Hey guys,This actually happened several months ago, but I decided to post the problem here anyway. I had FSX installed with some addons, and it ran quite well. I managed to get 16-20 FPS with a shut-down Leonardo Maddog at KJFK, dropping to 14-16 when ready for takeoff. I had FSDT KJFK installed. However, after some mroe addon instaling, this suddenly dropped by 4-5FPS. I can't accurately recall when it happened, but it must have been either after installing FTX sceneries or after installing the PMDG MD-11. It seems weird to me that sceneries that aren't even active should constitute such a drop (that is noticeable everywhere in the FS world), so I guess that thew PMDG MD-11's three dll's could be the problem. My question to you: Have you encountered such a FPS drop? The problems continue, however. Suddenly I wasn't able to open any screen in-flight that would get me out of the sim (so, for exmaple, when looking at the map or flight planner). When I'd get out of that window, the screen would remain black but sounds would remain audible. After several minutes, FSX would simply crash.Trouble doesn't end here. For some reaosn, the GUI is extremely slow in responding to button clicks, and the buttons do not make a click sound while the rotating aircraft preview is displayed. If I'd go into the settings tab however, the GUI is speedy and the button clicks are heard. The moment you'd return to the tab showing the aircraft preview, the button clicks are gone and the GUI is slow again. Finally, I have noticed that all 3D objects are textured well in advance, but the AI aircraft not. They remain bare models until coming within close range, after which they get their textures finally. All these problems happen with all aircraft at any location, at any seazon, at any time of day. I have been thinking of reinstalling FSX yet again, but seeing the amount of customization that I have done, and seeing the chance that something goes wrong again after reinstalling, I actually want to have this as a last resort. I know that the FSX install disc offers a repair feature, but I'm a bit weary to use it. If I use the repair option, how big is the chance that an addon gets broken and has to be reinstalled? Please note that I can use FSX. All described problems are annoyances, no deal-breakers, but still, I want my FSX installation to work and perform normally... March 12, 201115 yr I have used the repair option, but since I don't use any aircraft or scenery add ons, I can't say what might happen. I did have some repaints for default planes. The repair did not delete the paints, but it did reinstall OE cfgs so that the paints did not show. My guess is that the repair restores major operating files to their original condition. Seems faster that a reinstall.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
March 12, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the reply Bob, I guess I can always try it out. If it doesn't work out as planned, I can always do a reinstall... Anybody else have anything to comment? Anybody else have anything to comment? Before you do a reinstall, why not uninstall the last few things that you installed and test each time along the way, until the problem clears up. For instance, uninstall the MD-11, test FSX. If no improvement, uninstall the next plane or scenery and test again. Keep going until your back to normal performance again, then you will know which addon is causing your problem. If you uninstall all the addons and you still have problems, then its probably something deeper in which case you might as well whip FSX off your HD, clean the registry and start fresh. If your going to end up doing a reinstall, your going to have to unistall all your addons any way before you unstall FSX.Hopefully, for you, its just a matter of one addon causing a problem and not a hardware issue. But, thanks for the advice! I'll proceed as you suggest. I'll first take out the three PMDG dll's that were installed and see what that does. If it does not work, the PMDG 747 and MD-11 are going out. If that doesn't help, the FTX sceneries will go out, etc. I hope the problem will be cleared by itself, but it seems to me like a 3D rendering problem inside FS... March 12, 201115 yr Moderator If you end up doing a reinstall of FSX, if I were you I would use the uninstallers of all the addon planes and sceneries you have to get the addons completely off the system prior to removing FSX, then clean your registry, rahter then just deleting the left over folder, modules, etc.Personally, if your concerned its the MD-11, rather than just removing the dll's, I would just run the unistaller for it and completely remove it from your system. If it ends up being that your probably wise to completely uninstall it and then reinstall it anyways. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
