replacement AI textures?

Featured Replies

This is going to seem like such a dumb question. I am messing with FSX since I am having problems with FS9 & I now have a computer that is a little better. With FS9 there were replacement textures to give the AI planes real world liveries. They were available for all the AI stock planes. Are there such textures for FSX? I have searched a good while today with no luck. My other question is, I use Ultimate Traffic for FS9 for years. Is there a better choice for FS9? Thanks.Pat Callaghan

PatThere are real world textures for most FSX default planes. Search the Avsim library by livery rather than type. That's how I got mine. You will be limited to the major airlines. Good enough for me. I've never used add on AI traffic software I can't help you with your second question.Bob

adding textures to the default FSX ai is not a good idea. The default AI models are horribly inefficent in terms of LOD and polygon count. They are a massive resource hog and will kill your FPS.best bet is to use specific ai models and texture sets. World of AI even has an installer and packages to make it very easy!http://www.world-of-ai.com/

Depends on what you are after. Yes, WOAI planes are better on FPS, but they don't have exit points. If one of the fun things about FSX is moving jetways(another big perf hog)then that is gone with WOAI planes. You can add exit points, if you know how.If you use WOAI FPs,they really need to be changed to FSX type FPs to be accurate. Texture LODs can be adjusted.Bob

When I got FSX I just drug the UT (FS9) aircraft and traffic bgls over to FSX and still use them today - along with Ultimate GA, FS9 military traffic files and FedEx packages. I don't do a lot of AI but when I want some it suits me fine - though Ultimate Traffic for FSX is better, I'm sure. You can also add the WOAI traffic with their FS9 traffic files without conflict.Loyd

Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

Depends on how you define "conflict". Of course you can use FS9 traffic files in FSX, but the days of the week will be wrong. Not a big deal unless part of the reason you are using FS9 traffic is for realism. Also you need to rename the default traffic file. You may have heard that FS9 files cancel FSX files. Only partially true. Only traffic that would have spawned in your traffic area when you fire up FSX, is canceled. All other FSX traffic will show up in your area on schedule. I don't care a lot about AI, either. So I add LOD, with the Image Viewer in the SDK, to repaints for default planes and leave it at that. Not for everyone.Bob
