November 19, 200322 yr Hello All,I was watching Discovery Wings the other night, (ok, I watch it EVERY night.), and they had a great section on KMEM and the Fed EX opperations there. I have to tell you I was really amazed. In looking at the scenery of 2004, I see one section of KMEM which I am sure is the Fed EX operations buildings . . . or perhaps could be.How bout all you scenery guys doing a bang up job on KMEM and the Fed EX building with ALL the Fed EX traffic going in and out for Ai.That would prove really interesting. Also, some one needs to make a scenery enhancer like Lago did, for 2004, so dumb guys like myself can have some good scenery. Sorry, I've tried to do the scenery thing and failed miserably at it...LOLBest to allClay
November 19, 200322 yr There was a pretty good looking KMEM for FS2002. Haven't tried it yet for FS9, anyone have any results?Would love to see a Simflyers rendition of KMEM though.
November 19, 200322 yr I got to visit the FedEX HUB at Memphis when I was at flight school. We got to tour the facility, fly in an MD-11 sim, and sit in the tower during their "push." It was a sight to look out at the approach end of the runway and see the string of landing lights. After they landed, we went down to the tarmac and watched them unload. All ground vehicles had to honk their horn when the either started, stoped, or changed directions. It was funny, all you hear was beep...beep...beep. After they unloaded one of the 727's we got to go aboard, sit in the cockpit and play in the cargo area. This was all before 9/11, I doubt they let anybody do this now.
November 19, 200322 yr KMEM's operations may change some in the near future. As of now Fed EX is in a war with locals and appears to be winning to build a large hub at KGSO... I feel it is a done deal even with heavy local oposition...Ron Mashburn
November 20, 200322 yr You can find Fed EX AI flight plan and aircraft repaints. With AFCAD2 you can create cargo gates if the buildings are already on the field. The defaults may already have some. You will need to learn how to use AITM2 with the latest version of Traffic Tools to create a FX compiled plan to install to add to your other traffic bgls. Since FSCOF can handle multiple traffic files now, merging as such may no longer be required. It is not too hard to acquire the skills and the results will have you adding all sorts of AI passenger and freight schedules. Check out ProjectAI and http://www.ai-aardvark.com/ for base models, repaints, and schedules. Also check the appropriate libraries here. You can also obtain the payware Ultimate Traffic, updated for FSCOF, which I believe includes the necessary files for routes, sdchedules, and aircraft for freight and passenger GA and commercial operations including FX, UPS, and others, choosing just what you need.
November 20, 200322 yr Unfortunately though there are no known accurate and complete Fed Ex flight plans out. A couple of attempts have been made, but the schedules are minimal and not accurate. No one seems to have access to their flight plans to recreate the entire flight schedule.
November 20, 200322 yr In truth, I'm more concerned with the scenery and the afcads than the actual flightplans . . . some great accurate scenery would be fantastic.Clay
November 20, 200322 yr http://www.naco.faa.gov/ap_diagrams.aspis the source for US airport taxi diagrams. Just enter MEM into the search box, then click to download, view, and save the pdf format file. For KMEM is does show three FX areas at the north side (I think) of the airport.Using AFCAD2 in one window, and registered FSUIPC 3.x, you can open FS going to the overhead view in another window, slew around the airport to where you want the gates (refering to the printed out FAA taxi diagram, and create if not there appropriate cargo ramp classification gates and taxiways. You can see if buildings are there, but at least the apron gates might help. For scenery files, in some cases, FS2000 scenery (not AFCAD) files may work so you can search for earlier ones if not available in 2K4, 2K2.Now AFCAD2 does lay pavement with non-apron taxiways, or no pavement (transparent) for apron taxiways, along with lighting. So, check for scenery, look at the stock overhead scenery to see if the buildings exist, and then use AFCAD2 to lay taxiways and create cargo gates if necessary using the FAA printout of the MEM airport diagram you can download.Does this help? You can also look in the library for new 2K4 ADCAD2 files which are really pouring in daily.
November 20, 200322 yr There was an excellent fs2k2 scenery kmem_ng.zip by Vladimir Svoboda. Probably would work in FS9. I revised the included 1MEM AFCAD overlay to provide separate parking areas for SE Ramp, South Ramp, NE Ramp, Germantown, Courtyard, Sierra, and Graceland.scott s..
November 20, 200322 yr Scott,I downloaded the scenery and it does work well . . . it's not perfect but hey, what an improvement!!!Thanks for the tip. Now, if someone will just do MEI in Meridian,Ms..Thanks,Clay
November 21, 200322 yr You might want to take a look at 27ports.zip in the AVSIM library. It contains sceneries for 27 different smaller airports in the US. Most of these are small cargo area additions with a building labelled with FedEx, UPS and other carrier logos, plus some trucks and boxes. A couple are full airport sceneries. The sceneries are for FS2002, and I don't have FS2004 to try it.The whole thing is contained in a single folder, which you might want to hand-edit. Fortunately, the authors separated the .bgl files by airport, and the file naming convention is sufficient to figure out which files to remove if you don't want a particular airport updated. At least one of the airports is missing some textures, and the author is out of the business (although he was nice enough to reply) but if you are interested in setting up cargo activities this will give you quite a few locations with a single download.
November 21, 200322 yr I downloaded the Memphis scenery and it does work in FS2k4 pretty well except for the ugly, bright green patch around one of the runways. If someone can figure out how to swap that out for a better looking grass texture, that'd be great. Also, we probably need an FS2K4 AFCAD 2 file for it.
November 21, 200322 yr You won't find any real life Fedex schedules. They're not for the public to look at. Everybody knows where particular Fedex planes fly but you won't get any info from Fedex itself.
November 21, 200322 yr Author Afraid, using UT won't help you. Using the Status feature in UT, I checked KMEM. While it shows Fedex assigned to KMEM, there were no arrivals or departures listed. Flightsim.com has/had a few Fedex files including 1 for KMEM that I used in 2K2 called fdxfpv1.zip. If your comfortable using the new TTools and Afcad2, you might try that. John
