March 29, 201115 yr Hello allI've searched and haven't found what I was looking for so I thought I'd ask for some advice.I recently went from a Geforce 7600 GT video card to a Geforce 9500 GT.I currently have Nhancer 2.5.9 I am using.I've tried all the different settings but I can't get rid of the shimmering.I am now using driver version 266.58.I was using an old 93.71 driver with the 7600 GT card with no trouble. I also used Nhancer 2.4.5Can anyone give me any suggestions on which driver I should use now? 182.50?Should I stay with the current version of Nhancer or go back to an older version?Any advice on Nhancer settings will help tooAny suggestions will be appreciated! System specs: Mother board: Asus A8N SLI deluxe Video Card: Geforce 9500 GT Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ single core...overclocked 3 percent. Ram: 2 GB Corsair Power Supply: Rosewell RX 630W OS: Windows xp pro Version: 5.1.2600 Service pack 3 Build 2600 I know it's getting to be an antique, but it's what I have. :(
March 29, 201115 yr I have a 9600GT and I'm using the 197.45 drivers. As those are the last to work with the last version of nHancer, 2.5.9. I have good image quality and performance. Whenever I see a ground texture shimmers, it's because it has no mipmaps.Install the drivers and nHancer, then follow the below steps. I've included my own captures, but they are directly based on captures by one NickN.1. Start nHancer.2. Go to Options and check Allow override of predefined settings.3. Find the "MS Flight Simulator 2004" profile.4. See "nHancer Profile" captures.Within FS - set the AA box to unchecked and the filtering to Trilinear in FS9.That's it. No need to run nHancer again. The only different setting you may need to use because of your single core is on the third capture. Last setting on the right, set to Single core. One other thing is the Mip quality slider in FS9's settings. Suggested setting is 8 for NVIDIA users, but you may need to set to 4 to get rid of shimmering. (This according to a NickN post of which I have a capture as well in case you're interested.) Mike...

Thanks for posting this info.I'm downloading the driver now...it'll take a little time, since I'm stuck using dial-up.I've played with the Mip setting before, and it usually works better on 4 like you said. It's nice to know Nhancer doesn't support the current driver I'm using....Guess that's why I didn't see a noticeable difference with different Nhancer settings applied!I'll post my results when I get finished. Thanks again!
March 29, 201115 yr I was using the 182.50 on my 9600GT until I tried the newest Nvidia 266.58 utilizing the Nvidia Inspector program with it instead of Nhancer. It's the first driver I've used since 182.50 that gives me better image quality and performance. Needless to say I won't be changing this new driver anytime soon. There are some good threads about it in the Video Card section of the Avsim forums. If you get a chance check it out!Mike
March 29, 201115 yr Author Mike thanks for taking the time to post the info.I downloaded the 197.45 driver, unfortunately I downloaded one that is only compatible with windows Vista.I see there is one available for windows xp.My processor is a AMD Athlon 64, but my OS is 32 bit.I had a 182.50 driver so I installed that instead, for now.The shimmering is gone but I've got a bad case of the stutters when turning.I've heard of the Nvidia Inspector Program. It works with the 266.58 driver huh?Going to tackle it again tomorrow or this weekend. Not sure which way to go now. Update to the 197.45 driver for xp, or try the Nvidia Inspector with the 266.58?Any advice appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to post guys. It gives me something to work with anyway. :(
March 30, 201115 yr I have tried the new generation of drivers and NVIDIA Inspector, the combination seems to work okay. Though I find nHancer to be the better tool. The big difference for me personally, was how 197.45 handled my non-native resolution better than the newer drivers. My screen has a native resolution of 1280*1024, I use 1152*864, it can be quite a challenge to get that in Window 7 and with the newer drivers. I think Windows changed something in that respect. With 197.45 it works flawlessly. So the choice is yours. If you decide to take the new route, take a look at this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/:( Mike...

No shimmering to speak of.I'm satisfied with this setup. Just need to play with settings a little to get rid of all the stutters.I do notice a drop in the FPS. Nothing really to be concerned with and I'm sure some setting changes will correct the drop.I'll check out the thread you posted. Thanks for all your help! Don :(

The settings below are the ones that were applied by default.Should I change any of these settings?I've searched and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd ask you,or anyone for advice. Thanks :(
April 2, 201115 yr I found this thread and the suggested settings worked best for me - a truly remarkable improvement:http://www.simforums...topic36586.htmlTake special note that this applies to Nvidia drivers 257.21 and above.Hope that info is useful.

Hi Opa,I like to play with FS settings to see what improvements I can make, So I'll be trying this at some point.I bookmarked the page for future use.. Thanks for taking the time to post this info :(

FS9 doesn't use OpenGL, so you can safely ignore those settings.:(Hi Mike, I didn't think FS used the OpenGl settings but wasn't sure.I'll be leaving the settings alone for now.I find myself wondering how much of an improvement I may or may not get with Nvidia Inspector and the new drivers I have.I suppose at some point I'm going to try that route also.I'll come back and let you know what the difference is. It won't be today though..lol Thanks for taking the time to post all the good info :(
April 2, 201115 yr Author Hi Mike & Opa, I went ahead and put the 266.58 driver back in.I deleted the Nhancer before using the Nvidia Inspector.I downloaded the newest version of Nvidia Inspector I found,NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.5.5 instead of the one posted on the page Opa recommended.I set all the settings as described on the page, http://www.simforums...topic36586.html .I see no noticeable difference. Everything seems exactly the same.So I'd say either way is about the same...on my computer anyway.Thank you both for taking the time to post all the great info! :(
