November 22, 200322 yr Hi,I know its a bit early, but has anyone tried it yet?.If so is it $25 worth better than the freeware version?, if so whats better?.ThanksDan.
November 22, 200322 yr Hi Danowat,With all respect due to the 2 other freeware versions which are good, the RealAir Decathlon is by far superior. What is better ? Everything : high fidelity 3D model with gorgeous liveries, 2D and 3D panel gauges are very sharp and ultra realistic. The plane flies like a dream and is capable of aerobatics (true spins, hammerhead...) and even groundloop. And all is smooth even on my medium low end system : 1.5 mhg, GE Force II, 384 RAM. If you have 25$, do not hesitate, the RealAir Decathlon is the kind of plane that will entertain you until the next version of FS.
November 22, 200322 yr Good evening Danny,I logged 71 hours actual time on the Super Decathlon (most aerobatics). Once again I am impressed with RAS flight dynamics (I guess I won't be the only one). Most of all, the ground handling is as real as it gets (IMHO, we are still in FS2004). - 3 points landing : if you ever touch the ground a bit too fast (flare above 60 kts) the Decathlon begins bouncing several times like the real airplane.- taxiing and rolling are nicely rendered (give a try to a ground loop).- ground effect : a bit too much back pressure on the stick and this plane won't land :). I remember my first landings with the a/c floating over a 300 yards distance before touching the rwy.I already performed a couple of classic maneuvers plus an Immelman and a hammerhead (it works like a charm). I may expect lot of fun in the upcoming days. Edit : Of course all realism settings max slided.Kind regards,
November 23, 200322 yr Just purchased and downloaded the Decathalon. Serge, I see what you mean about "won't land" with stick a little too far back:) This plane is as good or better than the 260. RealAir seems to have it covered as far as small GA aircraft. Love It!George Stoddard
November 23, 200322 yr I share your thought Georges, I guess the Decathlon will be the taildragger reference for a long time.Enjoy your weekend.
November 23, 200322 yr I got the Decathlon and loved the detail on this baby...Its simply *mavelus*.I am glad to hear from folks who have flown the real thing. ... Hopefully..it won't be long before I get to fly the real thing as well..and yes..I loved the looks of the decathlon so much.. that I am downloading the SF260. Might as well. :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 23, 200322 yr Author ..And active camera works nicely with our aircraft too. Thanks Serge!Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
November 23, 200322 yr Hi,just a question... how long did it take receiving the order confirmation e-mail and download link, after you ordered and paid by there website?I bought it last evening (US eastcost time), in middle of the nite in Europe and have not yet received any e-mails from them. Regards, Torben Hadler
November 23, 200322 yr Purchased and downloaded Decathalon last night. E-mail with download link was in my "inbox" by the time I opened my e-mail client. Might want to shoot an e-mail to support with the details.
November 23, 200322 yr Only about 5 seconds for me, I think it's automatic... there's no more professional developers out there than RealAir, so contact them and you'll be set in no time I'm sure. The RealAir team have certainly done it again with the Decathalon. Flight dynamics are wonderful, and the sounds should be noted for their realism all around- from the engine to touchdown.I'm also glad to see that the VC has "taken priority" in this plane- to me it's the only way to fly and RealAir has created one that truly gives you no need to resort to the 2D panels.Only thing I'd like to see for (visually) greater realism effect is reflections of the cockpit glass while in the VC- the RealAir team have taken great efforts to show realistic dirt and grease on the glass, a nice touch- but I have to say that Captain Sim's F104 and Carenado 210's interior reflections have spoiled me by the way they create an incredible sense of sitting behind plexi. So if you're hesitating on buying this plane, don't- you won't be sorry if you like to fly GA. One nice thing is that a pilot in training can really hope to own one of these some day at a reasonable price compared to most other GA aircraft, while most planes we can download are more "fantasy flights". But I'd love to own a Decathalon or Citabria one day so this can actually be a good trainer. If you want fantasy, go get their Marchetti of course...Thanks for another fantastic effort from a super talented team!Best,Joel
November 23, 200322 yr Well, I sent a mail already a hour ago. No answere yet. Regards, Torben Hadler
November 23, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi Torben,The email should have arrived almost instantly. My only guess as to why you haven't received the purchase email or an answer to your support question yet is that your mail server is blocking our emails for some reason. Send me an email with your full name, and the email address you used to order the Decathlon and I'll send you the download link.Best Regards,
November 23, 200322 yr This airplane is more than just fun! I've only flown a Super Decathlon from the rear seat (while doing several sessions of air-to-air photography), but RealAir has done a good job of capturing the feel of the airplane.Slips are so much fun with the Super Decathlon! With Rob's FDE slips result in good energy scrubbing. I captured this shot just before realigning for the flare on 16 at 2Q3 while flying some circuits.Beautiful airplane!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/49850.jpg
November 23, 200322 yr Yes, fantastic! Just as I thought I had this taildragger thing mastered (thinks: "...it's all quite easy really") I look in the aircraft folder and find there's advanced handling options. Quick change later and the groundloops, frantic crabbing and one wheel steering is back, like an old friend :-yellow1This really is the best taildragger I've ever crashed!Allcott
