April 13, 201115 yr Today, I discovered that I was not getting ASE weather to FSX. FS9 was fine. My discovery was as follows:I checked everything in the manual for setup and found nothing out of line. Many months ago, thanks to Jim's help, we determined that I had my "IP Address" rather than "Network IP Address" entered in my Simconnect.XML and Simconnect.cfg files. We corrected this and everything has worked swimingly since September, 2009. The proper address for all of this time has been: xxx.xxx.x.44An examination of "Control Panel>Network Internet Connections>Network connections>Local Area Connection>Status>Support" displayed an address ofxxx.xxx.x.47.Edited the files in question to the support displayed address and ASE is back working just fine in FSX.Now, a little past 48 hour background: I lost my internet service through my supplier. My modem was replaced and they did whatever they do back in the source location (cross-over update) to get me back on line.Did this change my address? In any case, if you loose ASE (or ASA) you might want to recheck your NETWORK IP Address before going through a lot of hassle.Respectfully:RTH
April 13, 201115 yr IP addresses are assigned by your ISP either as:1. Fixed (usually for Internet via Cable TV), or2. Assigned dynamically at each connection (usually for Internet via ADSL/Telehone line). You can obtain your IP address here. Cheers,- jahman.
April 13, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the reply Jahman:I may be mistaken (always a possibility), but I think you are making the same mistake I made originally in interpretation.I don't remember for sure what the link was, but originally, in a similar way as you recommended, I found my "IP Address" which at that time was 70.188.206.32 (September 29, 2009, I saved it to a text file). I don't remember the date, but sometime during the past couple of years, Frontier bought out Verizon who I think was my supplier at that time. I just checked the link you recommended, and the address has now changed, I am assuming due to the change in suppliers, or the update I just received from Frontier. All that being said, this particular address has nothing to do with the address required by ASA or ASE. Please note the following advice from Jim in a previous reply to my post, "Where is my weather in ASA", September 29, 2009:"Hi RTH,1. We've been discussing mapping drives, but maybe I should have been writing about sharing drives across your network. On your server machine when you look at your FSX drive is there a hand icon holding the drive? Same for your application data folder and your FSX folder.2. You want your network IP address and not your IP Address that you connect to the Internet with. For that go to Control Panel/Network Connections and right click on your Local Area Connection and click on Status. In the new pop up window click on the Support tab and your network IP address will be shown. That is the value you want to use in all your configuration files. Thanks, Thanks,Jim"Note that this IS NOT the Internet address which the link you recommended supplies, but my server "Network IP Address" found by following Jim's instruction in step 2 as quoted from him above. The thing that puzzled me as I stated in this post is that the last two digits of this address have changed for some reason. Everything worked great for the past couple of years, until I tried ASE this morning. I followed Jim's instructions as quoted above (again), edited the addresses to the changed address and every thing works great again. I just don't have any idea what caused the change in those last two digits.Sorry for the confusion, and again thank for the reply:RTH IP addresses are assigned by your ISP either as:1. April 13, 201115 yr Hi All,A network IP address is DIFFERENT than your Internet IP address. The network address identifies a computer within a local computer network. The Internet IP address identifies a computer over the Internet. My Internet IP address is: 75.118.248.105. That is given to me from my ISP.My server computer has a network address of: 192.168.1.2. That is given to me by Windows.SimConnect uses the local network address to communicate. It does not use the Internet. The local address can change if you use a restore point, change routers, add computers to a network, remove computers from a network, or reinstall Windows.
April 14, 201115 yr If you have a router/modem it will more then likely use DHCP server to assign each PC on your network a specific address, depending on your router/modem they usually have a feature that renew your ip address every so often (lease time) If you look through your modem/router advanced features you can work with features such as DHCP reservations or similar features that will enable you to assign a specific addresses for any pc on your network, that way you won't have to keep changing the simconnect.xml, but if you can't figure that stuff out just pull up a cmd prompt (start-run-cmd) then type in ipconfig it will show you your network ip address ie IP Address 192.168.0.12 then just make sure that is the address in your xml docs
April 14, 201115 yr Sorry about the confusion. Your Network address is easily checked:1. Go to Control Panel,2. Select Networking and the network interface you will be using,3. A small window will pop-up with the name of the network interface you ,selected,4. Click on the second tab from the left (I forget what it's called)5. The IP Address shown (second text line from the top) is yiur LAN IP Address.Cheers,- jahman.
April 14, 201115 yr Author Thanks Jim:You answered my question:"The local address can change if you use a restore point, change routers......"The replacement of my modem/router from Frontier is apparently the culprit. Makes sense.Happy flying:RTH Hi All,A network IP address is DIFFERENT than your Internet IP address. The network address identifies a computer within a local computer network. The Internet IP address identifies a computer over the Internet. My Internet IP address is: 75.118.248.105. April 15, 201115 yr HelloWhy not just turn off DHCP in your router and use static addressing on your internal network.Much easier to deal with when you do this.
April 16, 201115 yr HelloWhy not just turn off DHCP in your router and use static addressing on your internal network.Much easier to deal with when you do this.Don't know if FSX supports it but in FS9 all my client apps access my FS box via a host name. //xp64fs9 The host name never changes, IP's do unless you do static addressing as already mentioned. Also can't believe no one told the OP how to type: CMD then IPCONFIG /ALL lol...-P Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
