ASUS Multiple choices for MB

I'm using the search function on AVSIM here trying to find the thread where they've been comparing the different P67 motherboards available. I'm thinking of going with the Deluxe, but I'm trying to justify the extra $100, and I don't think I need the extra USB attachment device they include. How to decide?I'm planning on building a SB system for overclocking. No interest in multiple monitors, SLI, etc, due to limited desk space. FSX is the only gaming I do, the rest is simple web design/editing. The overclockers forum on tomshardware has discussed some voltage issues with the straight P8P67 LE boards, but it's all information overload. I do apologize for my multiple "build my system posts," but with an investment such as this, I have to get it right :) Birthday money saved up!Case: Cooler Master HAF932 or Corsair 600T Graphite Mid-TowerThe 600T has some great reviews on newegg, but I see it's a mid-tower. A lot of people on this board are saying "get a full tower." but isn't it width, rather than height I should be concerned with. Only one GPU, 1-2 hard disk drives, one optical/dvd drive. Nothing multiple-GPU'd and fancy. I don't really care about hiding wires and making it "look cool"- it's going to be stuck under my writing desk anyway, out of sight. Power: Seasonic X750 that's got the instant rebate now at newegg. I think 750W is perfectly fine for a 2600k system, one GPU etc...Cooler: Corsair H70, water cooling because it's quieter, and better for OCing stability.EDIT: I see there's an H60 at a lower price point- newer as well. Better?Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (can't decide between LE/Deluxe Pro). Or any of the P8P67 boards. Trying to justify the extra $100...CPU: 2600K Sandy Bridge, of course...Memory: clueless. So confused by the discussions of voltages, speeds, latency, timing. Ugh. Need plenty of it though- 4GB (2x2GB) but trying to find the best brand/price/timing...GPU: some sort of GTX 580 (Nvidia)?HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"DVD/CD: TBD. Probably pick the sale-flavor of the moment. Nothing fancy, maybe the occasional CD/DVD burning.Wireless Card: TBD. I currently have a D-Link wireless G PCI adapter with SRX, it's old but it'll probably work just fine in the new machine. I'm not near a router (in the roomate's room), so I need to have wireless capability only. I have an old wireless card, this might be just enough. Monitor: I need a bigger monitor- I have an old 17" LCD, would like to upgrade to a widescreen, 21-24 inches. TBD.Other stuff:Windows 7 (upgrading from XP)Wireless keyboard

Hi,I like my ASUS P8P67 B3 Deluxe in part because the HAF 942 case enables me to route the UBS 3.0 outlets to the front for a bit of future proofing. The Deluxe is an incredibly easy overclocker as well, so I recommend it, as well as mating it with a 2600K and a GTX 580. The Mushkin Redline RAM at 1600MHz (6-8-6-24) @ 1.65v is a great match too, at modest cost. A good air cooler is all that is needed for SB, and whisper quiet.About the harddrive, I have a 640g 64cache version that had once been my primary FSX drive. Having both the OS and FSX on separate SSDs does provide better speed for loading and (I believe) operations. The case is fine, as is the PSU. Why not get an HDTV as your monitor? They are cost effective and provide an incredibly immersive experience.Good luck. If I can help at all, just let me know.Kind regards,

If I select a case that already has USB ports in the front, would I still need to get the deluxe in order to route them there from the motherboard? Or would they include cables so I can plug them into my mobo?I found your memory sticks, but not at the timings you mentioned. I assume this is done aftermarket, you can't buy them stock at those timings. I found a good set of GSkill Ripjaws $150 (2x4Gb) at CAS 7 (7-9-8-24 I think). You think those will hold up to FSX well?

The case will come with the front panel cables, question is whether or not the mobo has enough headers for it. 4GB of ram is not enough IMO. 8GB will work well. Also, I go through displays like they're going outta style and a small LCD tv is a MUCH better bargain than a large monitor. Make sure the tv is 1080p.

I think the ASUS P8P67 EVO will have the headers. (I think). Gonna look that up now. And springing for an LCD 1080P 23" monitor by ASUS, it's the most reviewed at newegg. Formulating a final part list now. Budget (saved up over the past year) can't exceed $2000 with everything- so I think I'm doing ok.

Although I'm torn between the EVO and the P8P67 Deluxe. Just trying to determine the price difference, if it is worth it.

Most modern cases will have cables leading to the plugs at the front that should reach back to the rear to plug in. As far as I know the ASUS P8P67 B3 Deluxe is the only one that has the USB 3.0 attachment coming off the MB itself. I don't know about the Ripjaws for I can only comment on the Mushkin RAM I use myself.I think that either ASUS board would be good.Kind regards,

Pro comes with a USB3 slot port, pretty much like the one on the deluxe, just as back port.Deluxe has 16 power lanes, Pro/Evo have 12+2.Now, IRL, you won't need more than 8 as some say, even for extreme OC...So in the end it comes to one thing:Are about 50€ justified for an USB3 front hub.

Thanks-Does it matter which motherboards have the green "featured" writing by the item (placed there by Newegg). They're all B3 stepping updated, correct?

What does EVO bring you compared to Pro? It's 10€ more here, but for what really?

Better internal heatsinks for overclocking?

SB overclocks via multiplier.Mainboard is doing the least of work.Heat from the mainboard is not a cause for worry... you won't be upping any voltages on the mobo, only if you are planing going 5Ghz+, that would mean you need water (custom) or better cooling and then you would need a chip that plays along (read latest posts by me, Dazz, et al).Save yourself some money or invest into better things...Or in the end... do whatever you like :Straight Face:

I'm telling you, that monitor is too small... For about $200 more, you can get an extra 12-14 inches. (No, not like those junk emails you get keep telling you...)

LOL Ok... I'll look into it. Gonna get the ASUS P8P67 Pro and save my $$. Probably between the three boards, not much difference within FSX. Thanks Word Not Allowed et. al. for the input!
