OK I did a $4000 experiment and bought a new computer with the i7 990X CPU OC to 4.0 Ghz, Rampage II extreme MB, 12 GB ram, and the nvidia 590 card with Windows 7 pro 64, and a solid state HD and liquid cooled system. Would you be up for reinstalling FSX from scratch and running the FSXMark11 benchmark? Praying.gif

Heck no. Reinstalling FSX with all the addons, FSUIPC, scenery took me 4 hours and I am not done. I still can't figure how to get my PDMG 747 400 and -800 on the new computer. Do I have to re-buy it?Why is a re-install needed to do a benchmark? I can do any testing you want - but a re-install is not good viable option with a nagging wife, a 10 year, a puppy and a golf game that needs much practice.Paul G.

Eh, figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I understand it's a pain in the butt unless you're already installing from scratch.

There is an easy alternative in which you don't hurt your FSX, it's a little tricky, but nothing one average user can't handle. In this alternative you install FSX "new", but trick the system so that you can come back to your old FSX in matter of minutes.See here:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/329116-fsxmark11/page__view__findpost__p__1941058And also little correction:2) Locate 4 FSX folders: 1. main FSX folder, 2. where fsx.cfg is located (usually C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX), 3. C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX) and 4. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX

But why is this necessary? To do benchmarking you need to do "something" before FSX is installed? I am not familar with how benchmarking is done.

Paul Gugliotta

It's necessary so that our results can be compared. If I do my benchmarking on a stock FSX install, but you do yours with REX, GEX, and an airport scenery (I'm just using those as examples) installed there's not much point in comparing the two as your FPS will be much lower with the add-ons installed. However, if with both do our benchmarks on a stock FSX install we can compare the two because the only difference is our computer components.

Benchmarking is a way of comparing two systems with same or different components, while taking the software out of the equation. Benchmarks are very important as advice on buying of new hardware. Many people can then see if it pays off to pay more for what performance and if it really pays off. Comparing different CPUs with different GPUs reveals what's good and what not.

Aah, now I get it. That makes sense. I already loaded the LD767, the PDMG 747, FlyTampa scenery, Squawkbox, all the updates. So it won't be a true apples comparison. I can report frame rates for anyone that wants a specific scenario. There should be a set standard frame rate scenario that can be established (a specific airport, plane, time, weather, scenery settings etc.)

This is exactly what FSXMark11 is

Exactly, but your system has to be set to that standard. As I mentioned earlier, if you have no problems with computer-stuff, which it seems you don't, then renaming couple of folders is a no-brainer and then installing fsx fresh.

Hi,Okay I just did a clean install of W7 and just finished installing FSX with Patch 1 and 2.. I have no addons installed.Ill run that FSXMark11 and post results:Nail Biting: Cheers Chris

really excited to see the results! Make sure you're only running one monitor at the resolution specified in the instruction manual.

Please reply to the thread FSXMark11 with the corresponding table (it's in the FSXMark11 package, "Benchmark Results") and hardware details, so that we can put it in the big worksheet.
