May 14, 201115 yr Hello all,I recently discovered that my FPS are lower than everyone else. This actually answered a few questions of mine, regarding payware aircraft and how they "hog" Frame Rates. Usually, I lock in a target of 20 FPS in FS9, but instead I get around 5-10 FPS, at Frame Rate friendly airports. But airports like London Heathrow, SunSkyjet's amazing KPHL, FreeZ Zurich, Portland and other large airports, seem to slow down my FPS to about 1-3 FPS. This makes it really hard to taxi, push back, even with the simplest Freeware and default aircraft. There are some relatively large airports that I don't have this issue with like ISD Rome-Fiumicino and Verona, or UK2000 Manchester Scenery. I want to purchase some payware aircraft, but I'm afraid that won't happen because of this issue. I think its my Graphics Card that's holding these FPS at such a low point, but I'm not sure. My Computer information is mentioned here:Dell Inspiron 537 (2009)Windows Vista Home PremiumProcessor: Intel® Celeron® CPU 450@ 2.20 GHz 2.19 GHzRAM: 2.00 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemGraphics card: Intel® G41 Express ChipsetIf it does turn out to be my graphics card, what kind would you suggest I should get? I'm also considering to upgrade my computer, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to mention them. Thanks for your timeNDOYNOV
May 14, 201115 yr I think you should just convert your current computer to an E-machine and buy a more modern Computer. FS9 really doesn't push modern PCs very hard. I'm running it on a duo core 2GHZ laptop and I get about 14+ in payware Airports, running payware A/Cs, REX,RC4.
May 14, 201115 yr Author Yes, I see your point. I also tried FSX on this computer, but no luck there.
May 15, 201115 yr My Computer information is mentioned here:Dell Inspiron 537 (2009)Windows Vista Home PremiumProcessor: Intel® Celeron® CPU 450@ 2.20 GHz 2.19 GHzRAM: 2.00 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemGraphics card: Intel® G41 Express ChipsetMmm... Vista 64-bit with only 2GB of RAM is not very good. You may try either increasing RAM or changing to a 32-bit version; I think the former is more straightforward to do: open case, install, close case, enjoy. I have an old (2005) Dell Optiplex GX280 with a P4 2.8 GHz. I added an inexpensive video card (a Radeon HD4350) and sure it helped a lot, now I can keep easily my 25FPS cap. Why don't you try it? I guess your warranty has expired long time ago, so opening it should not be a big problem. A 2x2GB RAM combo starts from $55 in Newegg, low-cost video GPUs (which will be always better than your Intel video) cost as low as $30.I see you have Vista. You should deactivate all the fancy stuff Vista has, it steals resources from the sim. Also, if you gave the CPU reference correctly, you may change it for a Core2Duo, Core2Quad or anyhting else with a LGA775 socket if the budget allows it :( Or you may try to buy a brand new powerful computer, there is a recent thread about this. Hope this helps.Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11.
