Black stripes through FSX screen

Featured Replies

I have had FSX for a long time. But there is still a few things that annoy me. For ex. at schiphol airport Amsterdam. There is this black stripe that comes from a building east of schiphol. It goes trough every object. I have tried to completely remove and reinstall fsx but it didnt work. I thought maybe my cd was broken or had a broken file so I downloaded a cd thing from the internet and I still had the same problem. I have the same at St. Maarten Princess Juliana Int. There is a building there to that has a black stripe going straight trough my screen. What should I do?5721856964_fb86a5baae.jpgfsx 2011-05-15 11-54-49-45 by Keffoo1, on Flickr5721856808_8ca1912574.jpgfsx 2011-05-15 11-53-03-23 by Keffoo1, on Flickr

Does it happen with a different aircraft? It appears the line is passing through the right wing at the same point in both pictures. There could be a shadow or reflection issue with this aircraft.Best regards,Jim

I found out that the problem had to do with scenery shadows. It doesn't depend on the aircraft no. But if I turn off the scenery shadows it goes away. Is it possible to keep it on but not have this problem?

Scenery shadows are a big FPS hit in FSX, so that black line might be a coded message from "The Twilight Zone" telling you to disabe that feature!Cheers,- jahman.

Yes, I agree with jahman. I have my shadows turned off too as it's an unnecessary frame hit. It is still strange that you have this problem on all aircraft. This is the first time I have ever heard of this issue with shadows. It looks like a bad repaint.Best regards,Jim

I have to pick this one up, as I have now exactly the same problem... with the addition of flickering shadows on some buildings. Interesting facts:

1. it appears only on FSX default buildings, not on addon buildings

2. sometimes, it's only the flickering, sometimes its a shadow spike and sometimes its both (as in the screenshot)

3. I use DX9, so it is not related to DX10

4. this "effect" is only seen when I use nVidia inspector to manage AA and AF. With inspector off, I don't have those problems, but the image quality is way worse.

Do you have any idea, how to get rid of this? And thank you for not suggesting turning shadows off, I switched from FS9 to FSX not to have a reduced image quality and no shadows is an immersionkiller for me. BTW: on the screenshot here I have 66 FPS, so I do not think that this is an performance issue at all...

If it removes the line when you turn NI Settings to OFF, then it must be a bad display driver setting that is causing your problem.  Simply startup the NI Inspector then run FSX with the line or corruption showing.  Now go to the NI Inspector and make changes on the fly to your NI display settings until the issue goes away.

Best regards,

Jim
