Has there ever been a solution for black screens?

Featured Replies

Hello all,I bet you're thinking, "Not another thread on black screens.." but I've been having this issue for many months now and have not found a solution. Most threads on this topic date back to 2008/2009, and thus I wonder if there has been a 'holy grail fix' on this issue that I haven't come across yet.Basically, I get black screens sometimes when I change weather/time or aircraft, or when I alt-enter or alt-tab. Even though the screen is black, I can hear audio. I can increase throttle and I'd still hear it.I have an ATI HD5970 card updated to latest drivers. I force AA through CCC. I have Windows 7 64bit. I reduced my sound quality to the lowest (some place blame on this.) The black screens happens with any aircraft. It happens in both full-screen and windowed mode. Someone, for the love of God help me solve this problem before I go bald pulling my hair out! ;-(

I thought NickN said the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the graphics section of your video card fixed this problem.Best regards,Jim

I too get this when checking my route using the Map,and I do have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in my FSX.cfg. I have to go back in and out of the Map for that 'black screen' to disappear and I'm running the latest drivers in my XFX Radeon HD5770.

Usually happens to me at the end of a flight (eg when I check the ILS freq on the map) so I don't mess with menus towards the end now to minimise the risk of ruining 2 hours. I smell a memory leak. Dunno.Although it is happening much less now that I have gone to latest drivers, ditched NHancer, and used Inspector.

This happens to me when my FSX settings resolution is different than the windows desktop display resolutions. Have you checked that?

For me, the black screens after alt-tab shift can be restored by pressing "Enter" key. However, there are black screens after exit one flight and enter another one. "Enter" can not help on that one.
