May 21, 201115 yr I have been in on a discussion over at Orbx about water shading. I use REX 2.0 for my water settings.I have just downloaded FSWC and see that it seems possible to use both programs to set up water textures and shading.I don't understand if the two programs are compatible. IE will messing around with FSWC impact the textures in REX and prevent going back to some particular theme because the textures have been changed? Can someone advise me about how these two programs work with each other or not please? Right I actually realize that so that was why I am asking about these two working together. I don't get the need to use FSWC when it appears you can do all that stuff in REX. Or, if you use FSWC does this apply additional flexibility to water shadings? And, if you do use FSWC does that permanently mix up files or textures of REX so that you can not revert back to the originals? Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
May 21, 201115 yr Moderator Hi Gerald. Right I actually realize that so that was why I am asking about these two working together. And, if you do use FSWC does that permanently mix up files or textures of REX so that you can not revert back to the originals?1st, you can use FSWC and REX together, many of us have been doing so for a long time.2nd, FSWC doesn't do anything to your water textures. As a quote from their webpage states "The program works by editing the shader file associated with FSX shader model 2 water, then clearing the shader cache. Settings such as horizon and vertical reflections, reflection intensities and curves can all be modified easily within a user friendly graphic interface, designed to look much like the default Flight Simulator X interface. It works with all 2x water settings enhancing the look of 2x low up to 2x max."3rd, you can first make a back up of your current settings before you apply any of the FSWC settings. In a nut shell the main thing that FSWC does is let you alter the reflections and glare off the water. For example, load FSX at an airport near the ocean on a night with a full moon and look at the water. It will have a horrible milky white appearance. Using FSWC you can get rid of that horrible look and tune it to make it look more realistic. On the flip side, you can also tune it for sun reflections of the water in the day time as well.To make tuning easier they include a bunch of presets, of which I would recommend the one called Orions Setting as it does a great job of the day and night water reflections. You can also adjust in real time without having to quit and reboot FSX each time you test. All you do is leave the FSWC UI open, go to FSX in windowed mode, make your adjustments in FSWC, then go back to FSX and go from windowed mode to full screen and the new settings will be applied.FSWC is one of those must haves imho at least for the reason you can fix the horrible looking reflections off the water at night when the moon is out.Give it a shot and make a back up first, if you dont like it revert to your back up and your done. May 21, 201115 yr Author Perfect this is helpful. I have no idea what water shaders are so this helps. I hesitated to do anything until I felt comfortable with what it was doing. My terrible habit of needing to know.Yes I think trying a preset would be the best place to start. Thanks again for you input. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
