January 4, 200422 yr well, I just tried VB for the first time yesterday. Had to change a couple of things in the setup, since on my HOTAS equipment different keys are mapped. As an example, Gear up = G by default, but on my controller it happens to be the U. So, all I had to do was change the key assignment for the 'gear up' command in VB and I was all set. I am a little disappointed in 'the guy or girl talking back to ya'.It's that same Microsoft voice as always (worse then the one in FS itself actually), sounding very robotic.I doubt it would have been a lot of trouble to actually have all the replies recorded with a real human voice. With all the compression techniques these days, it would all have been tiny samples, but would defenitely make a better product.Once you get passed the idea that there's a robot sitting next to you, it is a nice program. You can adapt it to your personal profile, so even with a funny English accent like mine - with some words! - it performs OK. There's an awful lot to remember though. Of course you have to say it exactly like the program expects it to sound...But even there, you can play around by making several phrases for the same command, so you can vary in what you are telling the computer to to. Overall, a nice addon, but wish they could get rid of that computerised voice...
January 8, 200422 yr <>I agree but would say that the VB voices are MUCH worse than FS9's. In my ears, FS9 voices sould like human speach triggered by a computer whereas VB's voices sound totally unhuman and robotic. That's one of the MANY issues Cap Mason glossed over in his so-called "review." And to prove that power corrupts, after a few years as a PAYING member of his site, and having only posted polite criticisms such as the above, my posts were deleted and I was banned from the site. But no matter, I can still read his forums, download his files (the few that aren't here anyway) and share views with you folks on AVSIM which is a better site anyway for LOTS of reasons...not the least of which is that the moderators here are far more reasonable and properly tolerent.GO AVSIM!!!!!!Jim
January 8, 200422 yr Before this goes any further, please do not discuss issues with other flight sim related web site/forums. This has always been a rule here at AVSim. These issues usually become hotbeds of flames and insults.Thank you for your understanding.
January 9, 200422 yr Hi all,Just noticed this thread. While I do not own VoiceBuddy, so I don't know what it can do or cannot do, I have found another program thanks to a nother member here at Avsim. It is 100% FREEWARE for non-commercial use, and is called SHOOT 1.6.3Yeppers, you read that right. FREEWARE for non-commercial use. From Their website:http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/" Shoot is a speech recognition program that translates your voice commands into arbitrary. Perfect for commanding your AI buddies in your favorite flight simulator or FPS! Forget about having to memorize all those keyboard shortcuts, now you can just say what you want to happen. Although was created with games in mind it can be adapted to practically any program by creating an appropriate command profile."It is Called Shoot 1.6.3And the Link and Program can be downloaded here:http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/downloads.phpYou Can downlaod the .net and Speech recognition software from there or link to Microsoft. I recommend the MS Links as the downloads go a bit quicker. The program itself is not that big, but the other stuff is, and totals 52MB.They also have a Profile Library, where you can download profiles for games. They have one for MSFS002, so maybe we can make one for MSFS2004.I opened up the Profile for the MSFS2002 file and found over 83 PHRASES in there. That is cool stuff. then you can simply add whatever phrases your heart desires.Kudos to Calypso here at Avsim for letting us know about this program.Just more evidence that FREEWARE is not dead, but alive and kicking.Whenever given a chance, I use FREEWARE for as much as I can. I am a big believer in Open Source Software and such.I plan to give this program a checkout tomorrow.I may also download the Speechbuddy and give that a try. maybe members here can compare the FREEWARE SHOOT program with the FREEWARE Speechbuddy program. It sounds like for free, that they both can accomplish what we are looking for.I guess my goal in this would be to eliminate using my keyboard at all. Only Yoke, Pedals, and Voice Commands. Cool Stuff.Best of Luck.Regards,Joe CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
January 9, 200422 yr Hi, Joe.Try "SpeechBuddy2" available at AVSIM only. You should be able to conduct a keyboard free flight, if you have FSUIPC. It works without it, but you cannot set the radio frequencies and do some logic state, like gear up, already up etc. Post here if you need help. From what I understand "VoiceBudy" is a diluted copy of the previous. Don't try to get any reliable info from other site, no cons allowed, it maybe because the author did not allow
January 9, 200422 yr I don't have FSUIPC, I guess I didn't realize you needed it for full use.I'll probably just use the shoot Program for now, Which gives the Speech recognition software that shipped with Office XP.I'll let you know what I think. The Commands for the MSFS2002 Profile are listed here:http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/profiles/fs2002.xmlIt looks like it will do things without the need for FSUIPC.Info on Microsofts version of Speech recognition can be found here:http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/sdk51/It even gives a download for Mike & Mary Voices to use.... :-)Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
