July 4, 201114 yr Moderator I came across a software package yesterday and searched the forums to see if it had been discussed. Strangely I could find no reference to Plan-G anywhere on AvSim. :Shocked:Anyway, for those of you who fly VFR you might be interested in Plan-G by TA Software. It looks like a brilliant piece of work and the author is not making a direct charge for it. However, you are encouraged to make a donation if you find it useful. It's designed to work with both FS9 and FSX and can be run via WideFS across a network. It also has a IFR planner but I haven't explored that side much. There is a support forum too. July 5, 201114 yr Thanks for that Ray. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
July 5, 201114 yr that's a great program! thanks for sharing it. the ifr works like a charm too btw.I'm using it from several months and think it is great but to me it's slow.I followed all thread in Plan-G forums and applied all suggestions (disable weather, fix script problem for internet explorer, cache cleaning and so on), but it is still slow.I run it on a dedicated pc and it is not connected to fsx, infact I use it only for planning not as a moving map.If somebody experience the same and want to share some solutions...I'm here.
July 5, 201114 yr Author Moderator I found it slow too despite running it on a WideFS PC. I put it down to my relatively ancient FX5200 graphics card. For those who do find it slow can you list your graphics card please and whether you run it on your FS PC or via WideFS.I wonder why it's so slow on modern PCs. :( Ray (Cheshire, England). July 5, 201114 yr It would be great except that, from page 3 of the user manual, Plan G also requires an active Internet connection to function. Cheers,D
July 6, 201114 yr Hi Ray..I got so fed up after losing FSNav when I 'moved' to FSX that I started looking aroundfor a replacement.I found FS Commander, and it really brought back my interest in FSX. It is ideal for me,with a 'live' moving map on my left hand monitor. The amount of detail is beautiful, and it is fast enough for me. When flying VFR I find it fascinating to follow AI trafficaround me.I always considered that a moving map program would be so slow, not this one.It is relatively expensive, but is worth every penny for me. I bought it online, but the GBP/Euro exchange rate wasn't good...it cost me £33.93.It will display fixes/zones/airports (in detail if required). I'd recommend it.The display is very similar to what FSNav gave me, which is why I bought it. Italso doesn't require that live internet connection, either - I think that is theproblem which slows many programs. I avoid it wherever possible on my FSX machine. There is a free trial available - well worth a peek.I run it on my second monitor via a second VGA line from my GTS450 Graphics cardwith no problems at all.It has the added bonus of creating text flight plans too. July 6, 201114 yr Author Moderator Hi Bill,Hope you're keeping well. :biggrin:I've heard lots of good things about FSCommander but my requirements are different as I use Project Magenta and vRoute. So I don't really need the Plan-G software but it looked so good I felt compelled to try it. I must admit to being baffled as to why an internet connection is required but I guess that many of us would have that anyway with broadband being so popular these days.I will keep FSCommander in mind but for now vRoute gives me all I require. I'm pleased that you're happy with your setup. For so many years we battled with performance and it's nice that it doesn't dominate the pages like in olden times. :( Ray (Cheshire, England).
