July 10, 201114 yr Author lol that would be nice dont think there is a cooler that would keep the temps down though anyone know the best cooler for the gtx 580 so i can overclock it. Alexander Shepherd
July 10, 201114 yr Let me know what you think of and improvements to FSX after you get the card. I'm torn between keeping my 280 until the Keplers are released, or just opting for a 580 just now. Would be good to have some input on direct comparison.Cheers i7 2600k @ 5.1Ghz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950MHz, OCZ Vertex II 240GB, ASUS Xonar DG, Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W PSU, Antec KÜHLER 620 W/C, Corsair 600T SE White My FS9 Screens - http://fs9screens.blogspot.com/ Callum Richardson
July 10, 201114 yr card hasnt come yet thats why i asked cant wait for it to arrive will get a cooler for it aswell and overclock it also am getting a corsair h80 to try and get the cpu to 5ghzHi ashepherd316I just received your PM but thought I would answer it here. I use MSI Afterburner 275.33 for the overclocking to 900 Mhz with an aggressive fan profile. The stock GPU cooler is more than sufficient. My CPU is cooled by a push-pull Prolimatech Megahelams air cooler. Things are quiet and cool all around in the well ventilated CoolerMaster 942 Case with 1 x 230mm, 3 x 200mm, and 5 x 120mm fans. The fast Sandy Bridge and the 580 GTX is a super combination. When powering a well tuned FSX, it is a joy to behold, especially with good payware scenery and airplane addons. I came from an overclocked 480GTX to the 580 GTX and noticed a significant jump, then once again got bumped higher with the i7 2600K over the i7-930 @ 4.3 Ghz.Previous System: i7-930 @ 4.3 GHz and 480 GTX @ 825 GHzNew System: i7-2600K @ 5.0 Ghz and 580 GTX @ 900 Mhz Please click on these links for more detailsBloomfield FSX EngineSandy Bridge FSX SystemI hope this helps.Kind regards,

July 11, 201114 yr Author cool what sort of frames do you get at places like heathrow jfk and lax with addon scenery. Alexander Shepherd
July 11, 201114 yr cool what sort of frames do you get at places like heathrow jfk and lax with addon scenery. For the past while I haven't installed any payware land scenery and airport addons outside of ORBX territories. Although I have all the detailed payware mesh, as well as each variant of UTX, GEX, and landclass payware addons worldwide, they have taken a back seat as my SSD space is limited. Having set my addon tubeliners aside, I just fly good GA payware aircraft, when I find the time. Your new rig will do just fine! Nothing could be thrown at it that should surpass the workload demands for some of the extremely detailed and demanding ORBX airports and regions. Please let us know how it goes.Kind regards,
July 11, 201114 yr Author my corsair h80 cooler came today just fitted it put the v core voltage at 1.450 and set the cpu to 5ghz idles at about 33 degrees and on load about 67 degrees was the highest playing fsx so cant complain at that just need my gtx 580 to arrive and its cooler so i can overclock it what does a solid state hardrive do for fsx. Alexander Shepherd
July 12, 201114 yr I'm also considering a Zotac Amped gtx580, 3072mb. That card and a 995x will complete my system until late 2012. MSFS
July 12, 201114 yr I ended up just ordering a 580 in the end, which arrived today. Certainly an improvement over the 280 in most FSX situations, but there's still some occasions where the CPU becomes bound, and FPS hits the mid-high teens. what does a solid state hardrive do for fsx.Not much other than provide faster loading of flights. It also may reduce the occasional stutter when flying into areas with lots of photoscenery, or other large textures. SSD is much better used as a system drive rather than installing games on. i7 2600k @ 5.1Ghz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950MHz, OCZ Vertex II 240GB, ASUS Xonar DG, Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W PSU, Antec KÜHLER 620 W/C, Corsair 600T SE White My FS9 Screens - http://fs9screens.blogspot.com/ Callum Richardson
