July 10, 201114 yr Hi All,Ok this is a dilemma, I run FSX with AI Aircraft that I am wanting to use Shockwave Lights and Nicks AI Exhaust. Both of these use the Panel.cfgNo issues making apanel.cfg but when I do they then show up in my Select Aircraft UI, I mean lots of AI aircraft.Ok, there is no way around the panel.cfg, but surely there is a way to still use the panel.cfg but hide those AI aircraft is FSX.Please hlep anyone............
July 10, 201114 yr Hi,In FSX the determining factor is the absence or presence of the .panel.cfg file. There is nothing more or nothing less that can be done.

In that .air file, you will find a variable 105, "Aircraft Type", IIRC. Change the type variable to "2" and press the enter key to save the new entry. Then, save the air file. It is this entry alone that causes the aircraft to show up in the UI.This AirEd in the AVSIM library should be the same that I still use to this day... http://library.avsim...util&DLID=89432 Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

July 10, 201114 yr Install AI_Aircraft Editor: http://www.interkultur.de/gossmann/fsx/tools.php.It also have the option to change the aircraft type. As mentioned, I am not sure if that parameter matters in FSX as much as the existence of a panel config. Try changing the aircraft to a type 2 and see if they still appear. July 10, 201114 yr I've been using AirEd on FSX since its release. IMHO, it's faster and less intrusive than AI Aircraft Editor if all you want to do is change the aircraft type. To my knowledge, the panel folder doesn't matter, it's the .air file only that affects it. Also, a shortcut trick, once you extract the AirEd program to a known folder, right-click any .air file and use "open-with" and navigate to to the AirEd exe; then set "always open with this program". Now the AirEd program is permenently associated with .air files. You can then double-click on any given .air file and it will immediately open with the AirEd program. Easy peasy... July 10, 201114 yr Awesome Jordan, will give this a try...many thanks indeedNo problem, glad I could help. Just remember, you have to hit the <enter> key after chaning a variable (like 2 for aircraft type). It's easy to forget when you're in a hurry editing a bunch of .air files. Also, don't change any other parameters unless you know exactly what you're doing. You can really foul-up an .air file with AirEd. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
July 10, 201114 yr Also, with regard to your initial shockwave lights and exhaust, dont' bother with the panel config instructions on AI aircraft, there is no gain using the panel tweaks. Just set the lights section of the aircraft.cfg accordingly and put the rest of the fx files where they belong - ignore panel.cfg instructions. The thing you might consider is when you want the exhaust to be in affect, light variable 2 (strobes) only turns on when the white strobes come on when taking and exiting the runway, therefore exhaust is only on at that time as well.. I think I set mine to 1 (beacon) so the exhaust is on when ever the red beacons are on - from gate to gate. This allows you to see the exhaust effects while AI taxi, but some folks don't like it and use 2 (strobes) instead. Check out the Alpha Inida Group (AIG) homepage (Smoke & Lights tab) - top center) if you're not already familiar with the common settings for all the popular AI collections. Also, you can find even more up-to-date light configs in the AIG forum here: http://www.alpha-india.net/forums/index.php?topic=9769.0It's gold... Then, when you're all caught up with lights and exhaust, add Nick's custom tire smoke, I like it better than the default FSX landing affects. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

Jordan this is my other issuehttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/339286-ai-landing-lights-necessary-files-to-make-it-work/I am trying to simply get the lights illuminating the ground in AI aircraft, the lights come on but dont illuminate the ground.....SO bottom line, I need to know what I have to do for:Nicks Ai Smoke - what entries and where, and I need the panel control I assume ??Shockwave lights - what aircraft entries and do I need panel ??Please help Jordan......Many thanks
