The wonders of a co-pilot

Featured Replies

No I don't work for fs2crew....My StoryI bought the JS 4100 when it first came out.. My first impression was "wow", my second impression was "Arrrrrrgh", my third impression was "I give up, whats the point, I'm going back to heavies". The poor little JS4100 spent the rest of the year left all alone on my hard drive gradually fragmenting and gathering bird feces (or whatever turboprops gather). Having discovered FS2crew voice edition for the MD11, Maddog and leveld 767, I spent the rest of my precious sim time happily chatting to my virtual co-pilot and letting him do the things co-pilots are supposed to do (reading out check lists, responding to check lists, making sure I'm doing my checklists, starting engines, chatting up Trolley Dollies etc) in the other heavy aircraft in my stable.Imagine my delight when I discovered Fs2Crew had released a voice version for the JS 4100! I downloaded it post haste and proceeded to fire up the little beasty in my usual way fully expecting the engines to explode as I hadn't un feathered the props (in my usual way) "uhhh, I think you need to un-feather that prop first" my FO says in a condescending way, thats good I'm thinking I wonder what other uses he has.......... well lots actually, fs2crew makes this aircraft enjoyable for me to fly again, I've spent the last few weeks gradually learning to love the js4100 and can now honestly say it's my fave mode of transport for regional hops and general everyday flying. Try it, you'll never look back.

Agreed. FS2Crew definitely got me flying the J41 a lot more. I liked it to begin with, but with the FO to handle things in the background (like the after takeoff check I don't want to do because I'm still manually flying the departure), it makes the whole experience more realistic, and enjoyable. The sarcastic tone is definitely something that's unique, because most add-ons assume you're the perfect captain, and should therefore be placed on a pedestal. This one likes to yell at you if you slip up, to keep you in check ("Ever hear of Vmo?"). Sometimes, it's not appreciated (weird FS wind shift causes overspeed - I get chastised), but all in all, it's kinda funny almost ("Are you sure?").The only thing I don't particularly like is that it assumes you want to play captain. What if I want to start out as the FO? What happens if, as the captain, I want to be PNF today / this leg (this one would be harder/impossible to code by far, so this one makes sense)? Those are my only gripes. I guess one last thing would be, in addition to running the initial setup (where it does the countdown to departure, with the rampie giving you the loadsheet and all), it would be nice to give it a timer so that after the initial leg, I can type in 20-30 min and run a different countdown for the turn. Initially, it kept misunderstanding what I was saying, but that was my own fault. After I "taught" my computer through the Windows tutorials how I speak, it's spot on.One of my favorite add-ons.

Yeah, I have the Voice Version too and love the back talk. If you miss a briefing (which I sometimes do), you get "are you sure about that ?" Or "hey boss, you going turn off the lights". Etc.
