July 28, 201114 yr I have a problem with my MD11 when going from NAV-mode (FMC based) to navigation based on the heading knob. This happens when I am in a STAR and I choose a heading with the knob to intercept the LOC closing in on the airport. I adjust the heading and right-click the knob to activate then every time the plane starts to roll sharp left (not in the chosen heading direction). It then makes a 360 degree turn until I disconnect the AP and I have to make the rest of the landing by hand. Is there something I have missed here, maybe disconnect NAV-mode before activating heading knob? Otherwise this is a splendid aircraft, the best I have so far and I know I will be flying this a lot even after the 737NGX is released. July 28, 201114 yr Hi Espen! So you've pulled the knob with the RMB after you've selected the new heading? Do you have rotated the heading knob rightwards or leftwards to the new heading? You are able to do both and should see a dotted-line indication on your ND, reflecting the direction the MD-11 will turn into in order to gain the selected heading. best regards, toby Tobias Artinger - 3D & VFX Artist - Wuppertal, Germany
July 28, 201114 yr Author Yes, the heading is adjusted with the dotted line in my heading of choice Espen S Core i7-3930K at 4.6-ASUS Rampage Formula-Phanteks CPUcooler-ASUS GTX580DCII-Intel520 120GB SSD-OCZ256GB SSD-2x1TB SamsungF3-Dell U2711 + Lenovo 19'
July 28, 201114 yr Can you post a screen shot from just before you right click the HDG button, and another from just aftyer the plane turns the wrong way? Paul Smith.
July 28, 201114 yr Commercial Member Take a look at the outer ring of your ND. Chances are there's a white ring from your current heading, around to the left, stopping at the HDG selection. It's something that some have seen happen with their MD-11 when selecting headings. I'm not sure why it does it, but every once in a while, when you select a heading, it won't use the short way and will instead take the long way around to the heading. Kyle Rodgers
July 28, 201114 yr Author This evening I flew 2 more legs with my MD11 and tested going from NAV-mode to heading mode and both times there where no problem whatsoever. No strange turning at all, just working perfect. Next time I will observe the outer ring of the ND when doing this navigation change. Many thanks for your help and suggestions. July 28, 201114 yr Commercial Member Espen, next time your flight director / AP wants to go the opposite direction, just PUSH the heading button and then re-select your desired heading and pull again. This should eliminate any three-sixty turn. Cheers,Markus Markus Burkhard
July 29, 201114 yr Hi Markus! I've never had this issue, Espen described, but it's nice to know a workaround for this. Is it a bug actually? regards, toby Tobias Artinger - 3D & VFX Artist - Wuppertal, Germany
July 29, 201114 yr I've never had this issue, Espen described, but it's nice to know a workaround for this. Is it a bug actually? Hi Toby, Not sure if it's a bug, Markus will answer I'm sure but I occasionally get it if you accidentally turn the bug the wrong way first perhaps due to catching the click spot incorrectly or pressing the wrong button. Turn the heading bug 1 degree left when you want to go right and when you bring it back to the right the aircraft will translate that as a 360. Very useful if you want to do a 360 mind. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
July 29, 201114 yr Author Hi Dan, what you tell makes total sense to me and my experience. I find the turning of the heading knob sometimes a little touchy and there can often be some movements in different directions before activating by right-click. As long as I know this issue there is no problem for me. Thanks for informative answers. July 29, 201114 yr ...I find the turning of the heading knob sometimes a little touchy and there can often be some movements in different directions before activating by right-click.... Espen S There may be a small and tiny workaround for these movements in VC mode. Head for your 'Cameras.cfg'-file in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX and look for a section similar to this one [CameraDefinition.002]Title=Virtuelles CockpitGuid={C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078}Description=This is the description of the virtual cockpit view.Origin=Virtual CockpitMomentumEffect=Yes.. change this to... July 29, 201114 yr Author Thank you Tobias. I will test your solution tomorrow, it's friday afternoon and now its soon time for cold refreshing beers I'll report tomorrow. Have a nice weekend everyone Espen S Core i7-3930K at 4.6-ASUS Rampage Formula-Phanteks CPUcooler-ASUS GTX580DCII-Intel520 120GB SSD-OCZ256GB SSD-2x1TB SamsungF3-Dell U2711 + Lenovo 19'
July 31, 201114 yr Author Changing the camera.cfg-file was a good solution, easier to adjust the heading bug and no more 360 degree rolls. Thank you Tobias and Dan for good help and advice Espen S Core i7-3930K at 4.6-ASUS Rampage Formula-Phanteks CPUcooler-ASUS GTX580DCII-Intel520 120GB SSD-OCZ256GB SSD-2x1TB SamsungF3-Dell U2711 + Lenovo 19'
