July 29, 201114 yr Hi,today I took a flight from KSEA to KSJC. All went well, approach told me to follow Golden Gate 6 arrival. But a bit later they started giving me vectors. This was kinda OK although I had hoped for a STAR approach, but then it turned worse since the vectors was directing me into mountains. I then had to just ignore VoxATC and avoid the mountains. I have several questions:It seems that I ALWAYS end up being vectored instead of just having to fly a STAR. How can I change that? The controllers are awfully late telling me what runway I can use, is there a way to get this information earlier? ATIS might work, but I cannot get it on COM2 for some reason, and I hate switching away from ATC to listen to ATIS that close to the airport. When the vectors I got were bad, then all I could think of was just ignoring ATC and land. Is there a way to ask for them to stop vectoring me, and just give me the ILS approach? Finally, I have read the VoxATC documentation, and it lists lots of stuff I can say to ATC. Most is things that are shown in the little ATC window, but a few are requests that I give to ATC. The ones I found are:Request lowerRequest higherRequest descentRequest current position fixRequest vectors around buildup ahead Are there others?I would like requests to:Cross a runwayRequest a specific approachRequest another runwayetc. Hope someone can help. Helge On page 26 of the help is stated "While running VoxATC you can display the current options for the stage of your flight by pressingthe 0 'zero' key on your keyboard" You seem to have found the enroute menu. On taxying/descent etc by pressing 0 you will get the sub-menus offering "cross runway", star/ILS etc. Rog Hanson
July 29, 201114 yr Helge,When in areas with mountains always use Full procedure approach if possible.
July 29, 201114 yr Author That is what I wanted to do, but as I wrote ATC gave me vectors anyway. Hopefully the 0 key Can show me what else I can request, thanks for the tip! Helge Rasmussen
July 30, 201114 yr That is what I wanted to do, but as I wrote ATC gave me vectors anyway. Hopefully the 0 key Can show me what else I can request, thanks for the tip! Helge, STAR and Full procedure is not the same. 1. Follow the STAR as defined by your flightplan and authorised by Center control.2. When you are handed over to Approach and are given the first vector, press '0' and request Full procedure for the correct runway. This way you only have to report back to Approach when passing fix points and such.
July 30, 201114 yr Author I tried the "0" following a request for full ILS approach, and it worked, but with a few problems:- When switching to approach and identifying myself, ATC at once gave me several commands One at a time (hgd, alt ghg, speed), and I had to acknowledge all this before getting a chance to resquest the full ILS. is that the way it is, or can I somehow stop Atc before wasting too much time with these moot commands?- the STAR I was on led to north of the airport, and the rwy I was assigned was 30L. That meant that the resulting FMC route was straight across the airport, then a 180 turn, an then ILS approach. Not realy a good aproach. What should I have done? Made a flightplan that led to a STAR to the south? But I didn't know that the rwy would be 30 before takeoff or what? Helge Rasmussen
July 30, 201114 yr Helge,Thats the way it is. Approach will start vectoring commands, but you will request Full procedure and when acknowledged by Approach you proceed with this. You can never be sure about the arrival runway,BUT you must make sure that the STAR and eg. ILS runway are part of an official procedure for the arrival airport otherwise its not a Full procedure and you are better off being vectored.
July 31, 201114 yr Author Ok, thanks for the answers. I just had a perfect flight into EKCH with VoxATC :) Helge Rasmussen
August 5, 201114 yr Helge, here you can find all your answers.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324374-sids-and-stars/Start reading it mainly where I (Akila) starting asking my 1st question. It would cover everything regarding your problem, I had the same thing. Joel Strikovsky
September 26, 201114 yr Is there a way to disable MS FSX ATC ? When I use my Voxatc it is still playing in the background. Also can someone explain how to setup SID/and STARS?THANKS!
September 26, 201114 yr I haven't found a way to disable the ATC, but you can go into "sounds" and turn the Voice option off. I love flying casually in a Cessna 172 to explore, plus I love to tie it all in with creative stories. Read about my latest flight story and blog here: http://starrfoxx-flys.blogspot.com/
