RC tells me to fly heading

Featured Replies

I've had RC for about a year now and it has always worked perfectly. Recently I had to reinstall FSX and now RC tells me to fly heading such-and-such; however, I will already be flying that heading. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice now but the problem continues. It keeps doing it for the entire flight which is beyond annoying if you can imagine. I've looked through the manual and cannot find a solution to this problem. Can anyone help me to track this down? Thanks

make a log, instructions pinned to the top of the forum. duplicate the problem, zip up the log and send it to me. jd

Will do, JD, thank you. The only thing I can figure I did different is the instillation order. Back when I picked up RC and installed it I was new to FS and didn't have FSUIPC so RC put it on for me. When I did the reinstall of FSX this time I put FSUIPC4 on first then in a later step, after scenery and payware planes. I installed RC. Yeah, anyway I removed FSUIPC4 and RC last night rebooted and installed RC but not FSUIPC4. It was to late to make a test flight so I'll do one today. Ed

FSUIPC and makerwys.exe should be installed after RC from the links pinned at the top of this forum. You then need to run the RC scenery rebuild again. Many add-ons may install FSUIPC overwriting the current version. To check that version go to you FS\modules folder, right click on fsuipc.dll, click properties, and click version to identify what is installed. Then go to the links in the pinned forum message to check what is current. RC commands its headings as magnetic. Be sure in your FS realism settings you have magnetic selected. You only use true in the near polar latitudes where magnetic readings fail. For the most part FS does not work reliably in those latitudes. Look at the status portion of the RC window. Your next checkpoint and heading to it is displayed there. If you are on vectors you might not be given that heading directly depending on your airport traffic pattern. If on vectors eventually you'll be told to resume your own navigation. That means go direct from your present position to the next checkpoint without returning to your original path. If you are doing very long enroute legs you may want to increase in the RC general tab your allowed heading deviation slightly due to great circle navigation errors. Crosscheck the headings displayed in the RC window against the headings in your navigation equipment.

Yeah I had the current version of FSUIPC. I actually pulled it right off Pete's page. Is the magnetic setting something in FS9? I have FSX and there isn't a setting for magnetic that I can find or have ever seen. Yes the checkpoint is the next I'm heading to and the course I'm flying matches the course on my instruments and the backup compass in the cockpit. I know about the resume own navigation portion, though I appreciate reminding me of it, I've been using RC for about a year now. Also I had my allowed heading deviation turned up as high as 120 degrees and the problem persisted. I'm reinstalling FSX from scratch but I did send JD the log of the problem. I really suspect this is a problem with FSX as RC and never given me problems since the day I purchased it. In fact I swear by the reliability of RC and have always recommended it as a must have for FSX.

I made an error. The TRUE/MAGNETIC option is on certain modeled navigation instruments. It is not an FS setting. When you reinstalled FSX (and the 9.1 patch) was RC reinstalled also? With reinstalls, etc., and if you had both FS versions installed at one time it might be beneficial to check the registry path for FS using that free utility I mentioned in the pinned FSUIPC update topic. It affects certain aircraft as to navigation PMDG included. It has to do with the magvar.bgl that FS uses for magnetic variation. If you update your navigation equipment navaid database based on real world sources such as interpreted by Navigraph for FMC and certain flight planner updates them this topic should be of interest although the error would not be as severe as you state: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336155-magnetic-variation-updates-for-fs9-and-fsx/ Is your heading error (as claimed by RC) any different in latitudes nearer the equator? The log will show the heading of your aircraft as reported to RC and what RC commanded.

Is there a newer version of makerwys.exe which I should be using or just the version that came with RC when I install it. The reason I ask is because the pinned post alludes to downloading makerwys.exe; however, I do not see a link in that thread. I also checked the RC website and did not see a link for makerwys.exe there either.

It's on Pete Dowson's official page which can be found here. http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html And yes, you should be running the latest version, not the one shipped with RC which could be a lot older.

Some versions make it late to the schiratti page since Pete does not manage that. The latest version of makerwys is on Pete's support forum page: http://forum.simflig...ional-programs/ and today it is version 4.46. Makerwys runs on both FS9 and FSX. FSUIPC full (includes documentation and other items (for both application licensed like RC and user purchased full feature licensed) packages are at::http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland the latest interim version is at:http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/

Thanks for the links. I'm just about to wrap up my first flight since re-installing FSX and things are going great. I'll post back here if any problems crop up; however, as I've already said a number of times RC is one of the most dependable addons I've purchased. Money will spent and I sure can't fly without it. I don't see how anyone who does even the occasional offline flight can live without it. Thanks for a great product and barring any issue I'll take this chance to say thank you for the help.
