August 2, 201114 yr HiI found this article. I've not tried it because I'm away from home. I'm also no pc expert but those of you who are might like to comment-good or bad?http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=9064It might even help someone, who knows. August 2, 201114 yr I have tried it and it did add about 5-10 FPS to my settings. Definately worth a try. Thanks, Joe Inama
August 2, 201114 yr Yes, definitely worth a try!Flight dependent settings (VFR GA versus big iron Airliners) are a very good idea.Don't get discouraged by the explanations, just follow the suggestions and see the difference.Under exceptional conditions (no clouds, middle of the Atlantic) I get > 100 FPS! But closer to 15 - 20 FPS on big add-on airports (e.g. Airosoft Mega Airports). Good luck! Paul Mennema
August 2, 201114 yr Not really much to comment on. This guide is aimed at weaker systems, and most of it is common sense anyway. Basically , the guide has you running FSX with eye candy turned down. Of course performance is going to be better! The unlimited framerate issue is a known one. I still suggest an external frame rate limiter, though I never use one. This in conjunction with Bojote's tweaker and a decent, clean system and FSX should run well for some of the system newbies with lower end hardware. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 2, 201114 yr Sorry but that was a very stupid guide.. Aim for smoothness, NOT FPS. I only have a i5 clocked to 3.4 and a GTX 470 and I garantee that that I run any high end planes with all slides maxed (except traffic of course) full HD REX textures in 2 560 x 1 440 smoother at 24fps than anyone running at 40-50fps using mediocre visuals. I use 8xS AA and 16x AF. What good does it do to reduce visual quality and get 60+ FPS if you get stutterings ?! Start with a clean install and a decent rigRead NickN's guideUse Nvidia Inspector to tune the driver settingsThen use Bojote's tuner to tweak the fsx.cfgAnd it's only a start, you'll have to try different settings and see what is working for you. You ready to spend hundreds of hours reading the 737 Fcoms and PMDG's doc .. why not spend a dozen of hours learning how to tune FSX to max it's potential. If you invest 1K in a decent computer why wouldn't you use it to it's maximum potential ? Eric Blais

August 2, 201114 yr .Aim for smoothness, NOT FPS. Go down to the theater and watch a movie and you get 24 FPS. Anything more than that is just showing off. Having a crazy high framerate that you can only sustain flying over Antarctica isn't really much to brag about. 30 FPS is roughly the point of diminishing returns. It can feel nice above that, but system resources are wasted. Up until recently I did what some idiot article told me and locked the FPS at the refresh rate of my monitor (60 hz) ... externally limiting it to 30 and running through a few of the things others have mentioned already has done wonders... and that's on a lame Toshiba laptop. Jack DeMarre Just an earthbound misfit My Current Flight Sim Setup: She ain't much to look at, but she's got it where it counts. My New Build: Phase 2 - Project Planning. August 2, 201114 yr Here we go. The old over 30FPS doesn't make a difference argument! I'll bite. Above 50 FPS the aircraft flies so fluidly I get a sense of euphoria. Above 30 FPS, I'm comfortable and never contemplate to press CTRL Z twice to check my FPS counter. Below 30 FPS and I'm cursing the add on scenery I'm using and the fact I'm not overclocked to 5Ghz. Right around 20 FPS and I hit CTRL C Enter and go to have a snack. But truly, I tend to agree with you for the most part, Jack. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

There is a HUGE difference between 30 and 60 FPS, those who have TrackIR know that (I've been hearing this since before I got it). Smoothness is important, but FPS too
August 2, 201114 yr What did you try in the end Jose? I did't try to change the RAM for the Mushkin kit. I'll try when i come back to my work location, where i have my FSX PC. But is very weird to have stutters with my machine ... It's possible the cause is any software ... ¿? José Fco. Oh no argument there. 40, 50, 60 FPS makes the aircraft that much more responsive... but particularly for those of us (i.e. me) with more of a rope-and-plank-over-the-canyon bridge than a sandy bridge... it's not really worth the resources. On final sometimes I like to crank the sliders down to post-apocalyptic wasteland settings to maximize the framerate but when I'm using the external limiter that of course doesn't really help. I find that I can stomach a landing @ 15 FPS before giving up and letting it autoland, or more likely just cussing a lot and shutting it down... then logging the time anyway in my little database. Who's gonna know? Jack DeMarre Just an earthbound misfit My Current Flight Sim Setup: She ain't much to look at, but she's got it where it counts. My New Build: Phase 2 - Project Planning.
