December 24, 200322 yr "Hi ll",Just updating my backup cd`s for drivers, utils, etc & came across this tip that I copied somewhere ages ago.I`m sorry I can`t remember where I got it from or who wrote it, so all credit goes to that person, not me.Small batch file which instructs CPU to prioritize resources for FS9.For XP users.1:Open FS9 main folder using explorer.2: Create new txt file (right click, go to "new", then to "txt document). Open this doc & write following inside (no quotes" "start /high fs9.exe"3:Save file as (without quotes) "start fs9.bat", you should now see a .bat file in your fs9 directory called "start fs9.bat".4:Run FS2004 by clicking on this new file (or create a shortcut for it on desktop).Another tip I used was visit www.blkviper.com for his excellent list of which services to stop running in XP.Combine these two tips together & FS9 is noticebly smoother. Hope this helps. Rob
December 24, 200322 yr Please keep in mind that running FS with a higher priority (that's what the "start /high" does) may cause problems with some addons that run as an external process. Examples might be external weather programs or GPS addons.Just my 2c (EUR),VOlker :]
December 24, 200322 yr I always have to wait for FS to load, minimize and set priority high, but now I don't have to, thanks for that!

December 24, 200322 yr > And, clearly Volker, your 2 cents (euro) are worth more than my 2 cents (U.S)... Hehe, at the moment I feel really lucky because all the addons that are paid in USD are cheaper for me. But on the other hand I paid a lot more for a US-made bass guitar that I bought some time ago when the dollar stood a lot better against the euro.Anyway, Spain is a beautiful country, so don't waste too much thoughts on the money and enjoy it (and the flight!) :)VOlker :]
December 26, 200322 yr Hey I have a question... I was messing around with this useful information yesterday and found that in Windows XP there is a setting above the "high" priority called "realtime". Is this an even higher priority than "high", will I see better results in FPS or is "realtime" not a good choice? Thanks,Billy
December 26, 200322 yr Well I tried realtime at one point, and it takes over, I didnt even have a mouse or keyboard :-lol, you can use realtime if you Hyperthreading, because of the dual capabilities.

The "Real-time" setting in the list of priorities is higher than "High." However, it should only be used in relation to mission critical processes that far out way everything else-- and when they say everything else, they really mean it (I use "they" because it sounds mysterious and important ;)). All second tier processes will fall BELOW the priority of the "REALTIME" process (in your case, Flight Simulator). That means sundry (*grin*) processes such as the MINIMIZE button will play second fiddle to your Simulator. DOUBLE-CLICKING will also suffer. So will disk-access! See where I'm going with this? It also includes the CLOCK, NETWORK stack (the stuff that enables you to access the Internet via Cable, DSL, modem... Interact with VATSIM, IVAO) as well as applications you may be running such as Roger Wilco, AVC, SBRelay, FSMeteo, ActiveSky, etc.) All of the ones I've listed (plus more) will play a distant second. See, you've instructed your computer to hard-line allocate slices of time to FS2002/2004 to process enough instructions to keep up with REAL TIME. This is an arduous task and is truly meant for applications that require mission-critical performance at the expense of the operating system (and anything else). It
December 26, 200322 yr I love Spain, the people, wine, food, and country are wonderful. Try and get to the coast and into the rural areas if you can.Capt.Mac
December 26, 200322 yr I tried realtime once and when I ctrl-escaped to the desktop nothing worked, including the mouse and KB input, because all, and I mean all, resources are allocated to FS9. That meant I couldn't even get back to FS9 so I had to cold reset. Felt like an idiot, hehe, the uber tweaker, lol....billg
December 26, 200322 yr I still have a program called End It All 2 and kills all unessary programs in the background. One thing that is never thought about is you must kill all programs that are not needed when using Flight sims. How often people forget that these little programs that are running in the background and taskbar slows things down, so kill all programs that are not needed will also work many wonders and works the same same as giving FS2004 prority also, so will achive the same result.Do a search on the internet for Enditall2, as this also works with XP and allows you to take control of what background programs to kill etc. Also I did mention some time ago that compressing FS2004 works wonders also and increases prefomance and has had mixed results with people here.
December 27, 200322 yr Denodin, I'm trying the compressed FS9 folder now. It's compressing on another comp. When I add aircraft etc. to a compressed folder that has sub-directories and files compressed as well I assume they're compressed when they're installed? Thx!billg
