December 30, 200322 yr Help....please!I've had FS9 for a week or so, and have a couple of questions that no doubt you can help me with.Firstly, I was flying into Marseille (not that that matters!)and was given a visual approach, which I promptly changed to an ILS approach. All's well until ATC gives me two choices:AVN TransitionMTG TransitionI sat on the "help" pages for some time trying to find a reference to these phrases, but got nowhere.1/ Can someone please explain these choices? Then I selected "AVN Transition" and was given my Pattern Entry Instructions that told me to maintain 8000 until established on the ILS, and no change in current direction, which was about 90 degrees out.2/ Why would ATC tell me to maintain 8000 until on the ILS, at that height I would miss it completely. (The airport is 70ft above sea level. Also, why no heading change to intercept at the usual 30degree angle?I usually fly the d737, and am also finding that when I'm about 2nm out, when I disconnect the APP and NAV the plane noses up and the engines max out. The rest ain't pretty....3/ Is this part of "as real as it gets" and I need to pay attention to fuel and weights etc, (unlike FS2002) or this there another reason for this? Can't wait to read some replies. Thanks very much in advance.CheersAllblack
December 31, 200322 yr I should be able to answer this lol, well the 1st anyway- the transition is the last waypoint before you start your appraoch, so you have a choice of beginning at AVN or MTG Alaister Kay
December 31, 200322 yr A similar problem was described before by someone else.According to my information the FS is totally oblivious to "STAR transitions" so the transition choices you were given have nothing to do with landing !. Actually in a silly way FS is asking you how do you want to transition the airspace without landing. To put it bluntly the word "transition" here is misleading since it has nothing to do with typical STAR transition choices used for approaches. Consider all this an "undeveloped" area in FS ATC. The way to avoid this mess in the future is NOT to select any transitions. If you want ILS - ask for "vectors to final" - this works well. December 31, 200322 yr Thanks guys.Tho I'm a bit confused about the waypoints comment....I looked around the Marseille area for points with these as letters, but couldn't see any.So not sure how they are waypoints - I'm guessing I didn't look far enough afield.CheersAllblackps: still looking for comments about the handling of the jet on final...
December 31, 200322 yr Hello Friend:Talking about problems on final, make sure that when you take controlaway from autopilot be sure to turn off autothrottle, altitude holdand adjust your manual throttle.hope this helps.HAMMER
December 31, 200322 yr Thanks Hammer.I've been doing in FS9 what I've been doing for donkey's in 2002, but haven't tried the autothrottle yet so I'll give that a go. The others I have been doing.I hope this is something I can fix !!!!CheersAllblack
December 31, 200322 yr Author You would need the ILS chart for the runway you have selected. Combining pictures and words, these charts tell you the series of steps for you to take to land at that particular runway. These steps usually begin by flying to an initial approach fix. In your case, for example, selecting the MTG transition to runway 32R means that ATC may clear you to fly directly to this waypoint (MTG is a VOR with frequency 117.30) for you to then follow the steps shown in the chart. I've attached a sample chart for this example. Note that from MTG you intercept it's 137 radial flying at 3500ft for 10.5 miles while desending to 2800ft before you make a turn to the left to intercept the ILS frequency. I'm attaching a sample chart.RegardsDave Vega dv Win 10 Pro || i7-8700K || 32GB || ASUS Z370-P MB || NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11Gb || 2 960 PRO 1TB, 840 EVO My Files in the AVSIM Library
