August 15, 201114 yr i have a pretty high end system so i can afford to run FSX in DX10 preview mode every now and then. I know that PMDG advices against using it and i know about the issues that come with it, so 99 out 100 times i will fly with DX10 preview mode = OFFBut, sometimes i like to fly it with ON because of the water effects and the moving shadows in the VC. However I noticed that there are no moving shadows in the VC (like the JS41 does) Question,Is this correct? Will there be an implementation for it or are you (PMDG) competely going to ignore DX10 altogether with the NGX? Or is it perhaps impossible due to using new techniques with light/shadows? Not a big deal whatsoever, just interested to know. Thanks. August 24, 201114 yr Fsx itself is ignoring Dx10...- it was only a "preview" mode to the upcoming Dx10 anno anytime- its very buggy and most addons on the market have their flaws with his mode (i know its a shame to renounce te performance gain- but the way FSX goes is DX9) Reg Klaus from LOWG

I am aware of the fact that DX10 is buggy Nevertheless, I have noticed that, in DX10 preview mode, some aircraft support moving shadows in the VC (PMDG J41, the MS default aircraft) whereas others do not (MD11, NGX) Since the J41 resembles the NGX in terms of VC quality i had expected the NGX to support these shadows as well. August 24, 201114 yr Author Umm. PMDG suggest I run it in DX10 because of FSX DX9 memory usage issues! No, PMDG suggests to run the NGX in DX9 Anyway, it has nothing to do with my question Antoine v Heck --- Ryzen 5800X3D, 32Gb DDR4 RAM@1600 Mhz, RTX3090 (24GB VRAM). 2TB SSD - VR with Quest 2 via link cable
August 24, 201114 yr No, PMDG suggests to run the NGX in DX9 Anyway, it has nothing to do with my questionHi, I will try tonight. If I don't have shadows it is more likely it isn't modelled. Eric Eric van Dorp
August 24, 201114 yr I use dx10 preview with no issues. Shadows are not shown probably because of a pmdg choice.I like the shadows inside the aircraft, but pmdg gave us other state of the art features like glass reflections on gauges.Still happy if in a next release they will put shadows.Tere is an advice to not use dx10 preview? Where? Why? I loose about 5 to 9 fps by using dx9 and have no grapichal problems with my old GTX285 Regards Andrea Daviero
August 24, 201114 yr Author I use dx10 preview with no issues. Shadows are not shown probably because of a pmdg choice. Probably, but as i've been missing any comment about that in the documentation i'm asking it here. out of interest. Tere is an advice to not use dx10 preview? Where? Why? in the intro document and in many forum posts by pmdg members. The biggest annoyance most people have with it are the flickering textures on the ground. August 24, 201114 yr Commercial Member Umm. PMDG suggest I run it in DX10 because of FSX DX9 memory usage issues!I said to try it to test seeing if it helps with freeze issues, I didn't say to always use it. We're pretty sure that's not the issue anyway now. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
