New computer - what do you think?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!I know that it is lots of those kind of topics but I actually need your help... ;)Today my old computer stopped working and now I need a new! I have a list here which I got from a local datashop. What do you think about this hardware? It will mainly be used with FSX and NGX together with lots of addons... The reason to that I picked the I7 is that the I5 not is in stock.Silverstone PS04B Precision ATXFSP 500W 80PLUSCore i7-2600KScythe Katana 3 CPU-coolerIntel P67 motherboard2st DDR3 1333MHz 4GBGeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GBWD Caviar Blue 1TB SATADVD±RW 22x SATAWindows 7 64Thanks again for taking your time, it's highly appreciated!Regards,Erik Linge

I don't know anything about that cooler so I can't comment on it. My H70 does a good job. PSU should be 600W or better. I prefer modular PSU's to cut down on cluttered wires.I would also suggest an 8gb memory kit, preferably 2x4. With the SandyBridges you should also run lower voltage memory, 1.5v or 1.6v.Higher voltage memory kits are OK as long as they're still stable at a reduced voltage. This is probably just preference, but I'd recommend ASUS for the MB. P8P67-pro is a good, affordable board. EDIT: On the memory, I don't think going out & searching for the lowest possible latency is all that important, at least not with the 2500k/2600k. I tried a 4x4 CAS-9 set of Corsair Vengeance and a 4x2 CAS-7 set from G.Skill. I got stable 4.6GHz with both sets & Windows wouldn't post at 4.7GHz with either of them. Same results using only 2 sticks from the 4x4 Corsair set.

+1 all of that. The Katana 3 is a cheaper unit, better than the Intel stock cooler, but I'd get something a little better. I used it on my last rig for a very short time since I happened to have one in the attic. Again, it's cheap...

Definitly an ASUS or Gigabyte. Gigabyte have really picked up their act in their looks of their mobos. The Scythe coolers are really noisy, well mine is. 500W would be fine if its good quality and you won't do extreme overclocking.

Exactly what Intel P67 motherboard?

Chris Burgundy

Intel P67. My friend has one and well any of them don't seem to be as good as if you were to get one from ASUS or Gigabyte.

Hi Erik! I agree with your system specifications. Just one thing: I would take the 2GB version of the graphics card. Why? If you run many Add-Ons at the same time like NGX, REX 2, UTX, GEX and a detail airport scenery it´s possible to run out of memory in some situations which results in stuttering. Furthermore 2GB are better for the future. This one is good: http://www.gainward....apro.php?id=458 This card is very silent and keeps your GPU cool smile.png Beyond, you can overclock the card to reach the performance of a GTX 570! But of course it´s up to you... If you have enough money, I would recommend you a SSD drive for the OS!

My FS9 computer:

CPU: Intel Core2 Duo [email protected]

Mainboard: Asus P5B, LGA 775, DDR2

RAM: Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800

Graphic Card: Sapphire Radeon HD3870, 512MB GDDR4

OS: Windows XP SP3

Get the 2GB version of the graphics card, save yourself $100 and get the 2500K, and get 1600MHz Ram with the money you saved

+1. the 2GB version would be very nice if you are using every addon possible at once. My 570 struggles when I throw it all at it.
