August 16, 201114 yr Hey simmers, wondering how many of us follow the Emergency Procedure's ? It occurred to me when I was try to take off my control's were working fine , then full throttle and guess what could not rotate no elevator input , and then the thought came in why did I learn the Procedure's If I did not want to follow. Luckily I remembered that I need to drop the throttle back and apply the brakes and there I was just near the T/O luckily I managed but this would have been anyone's guess. So it's back to my notes on the EP's. So tell us have you ever been in a situation during a flight when you needed to follow the Procedure's and BOLD's and you did not know about the EP's ? August 16, 201114 yr Author I must have a good maintenance program and crew. i dont have emergencies haha put the failures on Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
August 16, 201114 yr I've had my fair share. August 16, 201114 yr I had a brilliant one last night. Flying PMDG 737NGX, I had just rotated from runway27R at Heathrow and was passing through 200feet or so when the fire warning bell sounded , master caution light came on and the fire handle lit up! I couldnt believe it! I have never seen a failure in a flight sim aircraft before and the bell was so realistic!. I did the memory items: confirm engine failure (which engine)close relevent throttleturn off fuel for that enginepull the fire handle (although couldnt see how to turn it) full power on live engine and climb to a safe height. There I had some warnings about fuel imbalances from only using one tank so put on the crossfeedI also started the APU and generator in case I wasnt getting enough amps. Then I landed.Couldnt get the ILS to work so I wonder if I had the EPs I could hae gone through the checklist properly and reinstated the systems that would be affected. Anyway, it was REALLY COOL, cant wait for my next one!But anyway point is, some of the really important things are "Memory items" there is no time to consult the checklist. You do those straight away. then you get out the checklist once you have got everything flying along safely. Now that I know the PMDG737 will do stuff like that I am going to get a checklist printed off asap.
August 16, 201114 yr Author I've had my fair share. I had a cabin decompression. i had no idea what to do so i just nosed down to under 10,000 I feel so bad for your passengers Thinking again why do people use a SIM and ask most realistic stuff in them and they do miss on the important stuff. I will post an EP hopefully people do look at it. :) Aviate / Navigate / Communicate Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

August 16, 201114 yr Flying a repeat run in the first NGX tutorial flight the other night, I was midway through the climb to cruise altitude after clearing restrictions when for no apparent reason the aircraft suddenly rolled over on its back and went into a nosedive, just like United 585 or US Air 427, but thankfully at 18,000 feet so there was room to recover. I killed the autopilot and the autothrottle, rolled level and slowly brought the nose up with a steady application of throttle. I was then able to resume climb to altitude. I should have gone back to Gatwick, but haven't yet mastered the FMC to the point where I can do that, so I hand-flew back on course, reselected VNAV and LNAV, and was able to resume the flight. I made it to Schipol safely. I didn't have failures selected, so I'm still not sure what went wrong - a stray controller input or spike, possibly? Haven't been able to replicate it so far, But yes, short answer - I'm convinced now and ready to drill all the emergency procedures. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery

Hmm one more dangerous flight, hope FSX or the PMDG NGX have a log where you can check what happened. I am looking through my notes for the EP's when I had done ground training and cut it off later. August 16, 201114 yr To be honost there is a certain amount of common sense with these EPs. In your case you couldnt rotate so what are you going to do? well your not going to drive all the way on the ground are you. You cant take off so that leaves one option. In my case I had an engine failure. Well Im not going to leave that engine running at full power sucking up tons of fuel every minute am I . No so that leaves one option. NGX wasnt going to last long without a space suit. Shes not going to go higher is she. She wants to get down asap. again one option. The one that seems to be the dodgy one is the go/no go just after V1. Lot of time gets spent drilling that into airline crews. What about you are after V1 and you have no hope of stopping but there is a fire burning through your wing. Well its a case of crash at the end of the runway at 50knots or crash from 2000feet at 250knots. So you get braking and start praying...
August 16, 201114 yr You slam it hard on the brakes and hope your particular NGX has the carbon brakes instead of the steel ones :( Di Agron Dell XPS 15 L502X | Intel i5-2540m @ 2.60GHz | 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x2GB) | nVidia GT525M | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | 15" 1366x768 | 23" LG 1360x768 | Got a hardware question? August 16, 201114 yr yeah did the skinflints at HQ pay for that option? Probably not. I bet they payed for a nice HUD though, because that looks coooool. BTW when I landed fom my engine failure I landed with flaps15 so to keep the speed high and less problems with asymmetric thrust on approach. However the braking was rubbish! I nearly went off the end of the runway and I got another fault caused by brakes overheated! I think maybe if I HAD read the EPs they would have told me to do something else. I better get them printed off!
August 16, 201114 yr If that had been an airbus, thats when that handy Brake Fan switch comes in handy Di Agron Dell XPS 15 L502X | Intel i5-2540m @ 2.60GHz | 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x2GB) | nVidia GT525M | Seagate 500GB 7200RPM | 15" 1366x768 | 23" LG 1360x768 | Got a hardware question? August 16, 201114 yr Author OK people now I am jealous that you all are flying the NGX and I am that I get one soon , Well definitively you have to also follow the procedure checklist for that aircraft , and yeah it is common sense that I need to throttle back and use my brakes. I was thought the three rules Aviate / Navigate / Communicate. The BOLD text in the procedures are meant for every pilot. I am will post my notes shortly. August 16, 201114 yr Had to shut an engine down and feather the prop in flight once while flying A2A's B377 Stratofortress. I fly A2A's B-17 a lot now (the systems modelling in that plane is beyond excellent) and while some parts are beginning to show signs of wear, I haven't had an emegency in it, though I do have to keep an eye on the no.2 engine as it's vibrating just a tiny smidge more and consuming more oil than the rest of the engines.
August 16, 201114 yr Maybe it took a bullet in 1943. That sounds really good though I am glad developers are starting to model this stuff and you cant just tear around the place without a care in the world. If you fly a single engine piston across the water in RL you are tending that engine like it is your favorite thing in the whole world. Do you bother in FSX? I doubt it. I never knew that about brake fan switches! well blow me! that didnt mean to sound so rude as it did. X
