SB4 Issue

Featured Replies

Hey Folks, I'm hoping you can help me with something I've been having a few issues with, I did searches for this particular snag but didn't find anything relating to it. Anyhow, while running SquawkBox from the FSX modules I get the dreaded assertion failed C+++++ Visual error pop-up which isn't new to SB4 in FSX and with all aircraft. I've learned to live with it by clicking the ignore button, some flights it happens, others don't and it's no big deal but I have been noticing while flying the NGX the pop-up is very brief then FSX CTD's. No problem, I can run it from the Start Menu/Programs outside of FSX which typically remedies this problem but in the case of the NGX, I get a pop up when I connect SB4 to the server. A small box pops up that states "SB4 has encountered a problem, would you like to close SB4?" (my wording might be off but it's close) If you click on the ok button, FSX CTD's. It's annoying but if you leave the alert box open with out clicking on it and tucking it away on my second monitor so I don't inadvertently hit it with the mouse, SB4 continues to run with no issues aside from my PTT button on my yoke no longer works and I have to use the default keyboard key to push to talk. If anyone has experienced this, that would be if you could share your remedies. Thanks in advance. PS>Love the A/C, phenomenal work! For those bashing the plane because of the buggies, consider how complex this aircraft is. With the amount of different add-on software required to run Win7 with FSX, it's amazing there aren't anymore and based on PMDG's history with other a/c, they'll have it sorted out and this forum will be dead. Great work guys!

Had lots of issues when I was using SB card in my Asus system, finally broke down and bought Asus Sound card, solved many issues with FSX.,,, CTD and freezes....

Think Rob is talking about Squawkbox not Sound Blaster lol Hey Rob, have you tried FSINN?

I have Rick but I have more bug issues with FSInn than I do with SB, I might give it another try if I can't sort out that darned Visual C+++ issue. Boy thats a frustrating rascal of a snag isn't it?

Ya, I only tried SB4 once on FSX, and hit that, promptly uninstalled it, and put FSINN back in. I personally like SB better, but if it doesn't work, not much I can do about it.Hey Rob, maybe start a post over at the wja forums, and we can figger out your FSINN problems there maybe.

One way of solvin the issue is to run Squawkbox from Windows, rather than running it from the add on menus in FSX. Yes it doesnt fit the screen as 'neatly' but it stops all the errors. Ben

He tried that, Ben, but then he gets a pop-up, "SB4 has encountered a problem..." error message. That's the way I run it, too, but fortunately I don't get that error message. I do occasionally get disconnected from the SB server when my machine appears overloaded by the NGX, add-on scenery, ASE, SB, and whatever else is running. Rob, if you're not getting that with other airplanes, I suspect it may just be a computer resource issue. Don S.

Good point Don, I'm doubting it's a PC resources issue though as I thought of that too so the next flight I kept the resource monitor open to see if I'm over-tasking. The highest spike was 32% CPU and 45% RAM when it happened, might be missing something though. I have a Sandy Bridge machine OC'd to 4.8Ghz and FSX with Orbx/REX doesn't put too big of a dent into it. The NGX is the only aircraft I see the problem error message pop up when running SB from Windows. It's weird though, if I don't acknowledge the alert, everything keeps on ticking. Just the error message stays up which certainly isn't ideal to run with but I can live with it as I can hide it on my second monitor or Ipad behind the FMC when using AirDisplay. The only issue with that though is the push to talk button on my yoke doesn't work anymore, have to use the keyboard which I guess in the big picture is a minor annoyance when communicating to ATC in a busy cockpit environment. I'll tinker and surf other forums, if not I'll figure out FSInn.

Does it happen everywhere and every time you fly?

I've had that SB4 error on many occasions. It was solved by running FSX in windowed mode and running SB4 not from within FSX, but starting it outside/externally of FSX....this is why I went to running FSX in windowed mode. Haven't had a SB4 C++ error since. It's been reported that the SB error could be from coming into close proximity of other flyers, I can't say for sure though.

Exactly as Buffalo09 wrote; Solution, run SB external by execute it from the start menu, not from FSX menu bar.

Yes, everytime I fly with SB4 from the Start menu the "SB has encountered a problem" alert pops up.

Your point on proximity to other A/C is true, it typically only happens when I'm approaching an airport or if someone logs in at the airport I'm departing from. I have been running SB4 from Windows and not FSX, I dont get the C++ error but I do get a window saying "SB has encountered a problem" but I can continue to run as long as I dont acknowledge it. Still works fine but my PTT is disabled on my yoke.

Update, I disabled Orbx PNW yesterday flying out of CYVR to sort through another problem I'm having and to my suprise, SB4 when running from Windows didn't show the error message. I reloaded Orbx PNW and started FSX and the NGX in CYVR and I got the pop up so there's an element in Orbx that when coupled with NGX doesn't like SB4. Man, can't we all just get along in there! LOL.

I have Orbx PNW installed and don't get that error. Haven't flown out of CYVR, though. Try Seattle? Must be some bad combination of things. I also have UTX and GEX installed and made the recommended adjustments to get them to play nice together. (All are also up to date.)
