January 14, 200422 yr Hi,Happened suddenly (FS2004):A square visibility layer (User defined weather). When visibility is set to unlimited it disappears, otherwise it thickens!Never happened before.Tried everything to get the normal look back, but didn't succeed.Any ideas?Jan"Procul Negotiis"http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/57789.jpg
January 14, 200422 yr Try setting the max height of the layer to just above the aircraft's planned cruise alt... If you want to simulate a layer of fog, I suggest using stratus. It works very well and blends with the terrain...-John
January 15, 200422 yr John,Thanks for your answer.Problem resolved spontaneously!!??Don't know what has happened, but happy again.Jan"Procul Negotiis" Jan "Beatus ille qui procul negotiis..."

Simple fix?
January 15, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,Just a guess, but it looks like your resources may be low, and FS9 has decided to simplify the way it draws the vis layer to keep your frame rates up. Suggest reducing the frame rate slider and perhaps some other graphics detail options a bit...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 15, 200422 yr Moderator Damian,I have seen this only after I installed John's new overcast solution texture with real weather (AS2004). The overcast works fine as long as you manually set it up, but I'm sure this has something to do with the new cirrus textures in conjunction with real weather recently uploaded to avsim.Hope this helps,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAthlonXP2000,AbitKX7-333(latest4in1),512MB/2700SDRAM,WinXP,DirectX8.1,Geforce3TI200(128MB)(Det.30.82),SBlive(WDM5.1.2601.0) I9-13900K, RTX 4090, DR5-6000MHZ, CORSAIR ICUE H150I ELITE, ASUS PRIME Z790-P, THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GF3 1350W, WIN 11
January 15, 200422 yr Hi,I think you are right since i remember it happened after installing John's textures and thereafter a couple of weatherchanges.Btw. i enjoyed them very much, finally CAT IIIA.No Active Sky, no FSUIPC.After restoring the old textures and several restarts of FS everything became normal again, causa???Don't know if the cirrus was responsible.Jan"Procul Negotiis" Jan "Beatus ille qui procul negotiis..."
January 15, 200422 yr I will restore my own backups tonight.... There's always a chance the cirrus overcast bitmaps are used by the visibility engine, but the pics displayed don't show my cirrus overcast textures..they show a vis layer that terminates at an altitude below the aircraft's altitude. It'd be great if someone could post a w/my textures photo and without, all other settings being equal, with this same scenario...-John
January 16, 200422 yr I had something like this http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/58024.jpgI ended up reinstalling FS
January 16, 200422 yr That's weird--those aren't even my cirrus textures. Makes me wonder whether the third party add-on was/is doing something odd with them. As I said, I'll try it tonight and see what happens. I still would like to see an "after" shot as well as a "before" shot, preferably with a smaller jpg size...-John
January 16, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi All, These problems is occuring when there is missing texture in fs2004texture. January 16, 200422 yr I have traced this issue to my recent bitmap release. So I don't have to repeat the reasons and the alternatives, here is a link to my post in another thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=171805&page=-John
