September 25, 201114 yr FWIW: I was having random freezes/lockups of FSX that required a hard reboot. After much troubleshooting, I discovered a bad Western Digital Velociraptor hard drive. I replaced that drive with a known good one and everything seems to be fine now. Unfortunately when FSX froze, it did not leave anything in the logs. BTW, the hard drive tested good when performing a CHKDSK and also when using the WD diagnostic software. Apparently this behavior is fairly common of the velociraptor hard drives; just Google them and read all the weird problems others are having. Please don't mis-understand me, I am a long time comsumer of WD drives and would not hesitate to purchase another. Just something to consider if you're having this type of issue...... September 25, 201114 yr Thanks for the info Ron. They are very hardy drives though. In my home town, we have had 7500 earthquakes since sept last year,3 of them over 6 on the scale, the WD drives survived and the Seagates did not. So my Vrap withstood a 7.1 and 2x 6.3 quake whilst running, Amazing. The 2 seagates disintergrated.
