September 27, 201114 yr Setup a flight from KLAS to KLAX ( BOACH4 HEC RIIVR2 ) with 737NGX. Although the flight completed successfully I encountered a display I was not familiar with. When received ATIS info from KLAX and said they were using runway 7L and 7R for landing and takeoff. I setup the FMC for an ILS approach to runway 7L (using ILS freq 111.10). Normally looking at the Captain's outboard display I was expecting to see the ILS freq and inbound course which I had set to 069, however I saw ICFN / 069 and once I pushed the vor loc button it changed to IIAS / 069. I have searched through the manuals and can not find what this means. If someone out there can help me with this it would be appreciated. ThanksBob DemarestBirmingham, Al. September 27, 201114 yr Bob, The four characters before the slash are the identifier for the ILS you're tuned to. "IIAS" is runway 7L at KLAX. September 27, 201114 yr No expert, and I'd be speculating, but ICFN is the ILS identifier for the reciprocal runway, 25R, which also is on 111.10. Maybe engaging VOR/LOC with course set at 069 told the FMC that you were, in fact, heading for 07L?? Jeff Hunter
September 27, 201114 yr Author Kurt: Thanks for the quick response. Now that I've taken a closer look at the approach chart I see that it shows "ILS/DME 111.1 IIAS". Never noticed that before and every time that I can remember I've always noticed the display to actually show the ILS frequency followed by the inbound course. Any idea what the initial display of ICFN means? ThanksBob DemarestBirmingham, Al. Bob Demarest Knoxville, Tennessee
September 27, 201114 yr Author Jeff: You're right...I went out and pulled the chart for KLAX 25R and it shows the identifier as ICFN. Thanks for the help Bob Demarest Bob Demarest Knoxville, Tennessee
September 28, 201114 yr Commercial Member You were probably initially picking up the 25R ILS as you came in from the east, that's all. Once you started picking up the 7L one it changed. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
September 28, 201114 yr Commercial Member In the real world, the LOC beams, like the lights, can be selected depending on the ops by the local controller (tower controller), to suit which direction they're using, in the case the LOCs are on the same freq. I point that out, just to say that you wouldn't normally see the opposite identifier when approaching from the opposite side, like in the sim. It's just a sim limitation. Kyle Rodgers
