September 30, 201114 yr I can't believe that I'm already having issues with my Asus board. When I turned on the machine this morning, it would not turn on. After removing a USB PCI card, the computer did turn on, but now I have issues with the USB ports and starting the computer results in a start, then turns off, then it restarts. It's a head scratch-er. I going to just replace it with a Gigabyte or EVGA. Anyone with a Gigabyte please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.Jose MSFS
September 30, 201114 yr Before replacing the board, double check the power supply. A failing power supply can sometimes cause those symptoms as well.
September 30, 201114 yr Hi Jose, I do not want to start a peeing match with anyone, I am not brand dedicated and care little about what anyone else spends their money on. I can only tell you what I did and why. When I was in the market for a new board this year I set out to do my homework. Admittedly I was already biased due to a poor experience with my AZUS board previous. My internet search immediately indicated the ASUS P8’s were trouble, which hardened my conviction not to purchase ASUS. At the time Gigabyte had the only available to me, board in a 1155 factor that met my requirements. I have zero issues or problems and my board is well revered in most all PC circles. I would say that Gigabytes product service is no better than ASUS, which is to say they both suck as a general rule. Gigabyte have a good reputation for being solid boards. EVGA are renowned for their product support and service. I would be very comfortable with EVGA, probably would have bought one myself if they were available at the time. Good luck with your decision, either choice would be a winner. September 30, 201114 yr Author Gary, I am what you would call a loyal customer "if you treat me right." I continue to buy from Newegg, because they continue to treat me right. I've been loyal to Asus, but it's time to make a change. Maybe it's just an isolated incident or maybe I just bought a lesser board? According to the experts, I thought I had a winner. September 30, 201114 yr I also had trouble with the same board. Lucky it happened within the warranty period with the dealer and they gave me an exact replacement. Asus help was useless as they wanted to repair the board. This may be my last Asus.
October 1, 201114 yr I have the Z68X-UD3P and all I can say is its is great! Gigabyte have really turned up in their looks and styling and as always with gigabyte, you will get a very solid board. The BIOS, although classic, is very easy to use. I basically figured my way around it to do my first 100MHz overclock without any troubles. I would recommend them over EVGA. I would recommend the UD3P/UD4. They both have a packed rear i/o and a full of features making a great buy. P.S. That's nice "expensive" mobo you have. Thanks. I love Newegg, product support and no hassle returns and quick delivery. Prices are usually good though they are not always the cheapest. I personally do not think your problem is isolated, though a lot of boards are sold and the population here and what you read on the net probably make any useful statistical information useless. There are a lot of posts on the net and even in these forums on problems with that board. Cold-boot issues, intermittent shutdowns, DOA and now your issue. When I was researching earlier in the year, one site ASUS sent a board to for review arrived DOA. I thought if they care so little about their product that they would send a defective board for review then ASUS cares little about their product quality or image or customers. I could find nothing derogative about Gigabyte.
