October 4, 201114 yr I was flying this route MMUN-CYUL MYDIA B881 KNOST TAY J75 CAE PSK J53 OAKLE J53 LOONS J78 PSB J59 SYR MSS FRANX FRANX5 and landing rwy was 06LAs per Franx5 STAR.. I'm suppose to be at franx at 6000B but when I informed to contact approach I was at FL110 and approach cleared me to descend to FL090 25nm from Franx then 10 nm later I was told that I'm 30 nm from the marker and was told to descend to 2100 ft to intercept.. I can't go from FL110 to FL021 in 30 nm....I've noticed on certain route that approach is kind o flate with their instructions therefore I'm almost too high to intercept
October 4, 201114 yr When you contact approach, ask immediately for an instrument approach and fly your STAR to the runway you choose (RC won't bug you during your STAR). Once you're established and about 5nm from the runway, approach will send you to the tower frequency for landing clearance. Devin CYOW
October 4, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the info I didn't know but on this STAR need to be vectored for final
October 4, 201114 yr I hear you on the vector to final...just do it yourself to get on the approach course. Usually the fix for vector to final isn't too far from the initial fix for approach. The vectors to final allow controllers to sequence aircraft. Devin CYOW
October 5, 201114 yr Check out the NOTAMS option with lets you deviate from RC commands but still continuing them. This way you will still get vectors. In your case you can go below the atc advised altitudes but only after meeting the crossing restriction of 11,000 or 12,000 feet 40 nm out. This crossing restriction represents the vertical window of control transfer from center to approach. See pages 47 through 50 in the RC manual. Note that turbo props and props have lower crossing restrictions than jets.
October 5, 201114 yr Author AS per the notams...pilots can only go 1000ft below assigned alt unless I missunderstood
October 5, 201114 yr I am not aware of a 1000 foot deviation limit on using NOTAMS. I have deviated more than that for terrain obstacles without controller admonition. First, for those following, here is a chart link I found for CYULhttp://joomla.czul.i...emid=14〈=en There are published approaches for the runways of interest. You were not told told to start your descent to 9,000 until 25 nm after FRANX? You should have the comms during approach. Be sure there are no outstanding acks on the menu to stall RC ATC. Also be sure prerecorded chatter and display text if off in RC to improve performance. Interact with AI and AI Chatter should be on. The STAR information shows the 06 runways thresholds about 24 nm from FRANX. Was RC waiting 25 nm past FRANX to turn you toward the intercept and descend to 2100? RC uses about a 45 degree intercept. Are you using RC 4.3 b3845? Do you have the 4.3 manual from the documentation page at jdtllc.com?
October 5, 201114 yr I am attaching an extract of the FRANX5 STAR. Can you edit that showing where the events occurred of RC instruction? You should be able to right click on the image to download it with a save link as. Please draw the path commanded by RC. Then save as a jpg and attach to a reply here.
October 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try but there's one thing I'd like to know in regards to callsigns..there's no callsign for Canjet nor sunwing and some other airlines... will the callsign list be upgraded??
October 16, 201114 yr Thanks for the info! I'll give it a try but there's one thing I'd like to know in regards to callsigns..there's no callsign for Canjet nor sunwing and some other airlines... will the callsign list be upgraded?? Canjet exists. Sunwing does not.
October 16, 201114 yr AS per the notams...pilots can only go 1000ft below assigned alt unless I missunderstoodYeah, you misunderstood a little. When notifying you (the pilot) of NOTAMS for the airport you selected the voice from on high says you must maintain not less than 1000ft vertical and horizontal clearance from any obstacle. No biggie, except I guess it really could be at times. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
