CREATING SID/STAR

Featured Replies

Hi all !! Is there a way to create SID or STAR with de JS 41 FMS GNS-XLs ? like in the Honeywell FMS for Feelthere aircraft, ERJ V2 for example. I fly on airport (in ORBX AREA) where the only arrivals are RNAv GPS or .....nothing (KRNT/KSMN/KMYL........)A idea ? Thanks for replyke7aa2pv

You can enter custom waypoints, however, not STARs. The Honeywell FMS in the ERJ is an RNAV capable system. The system in the J41 has no real vertical navigation capability. The information that it provides is only for basic reference and is not capable of precision approaches. Therefore it ignores all RNAV STARs.

Thanks for yr reply So i can "create" waypoint within the flight plan to match the RNAV GPS approach ? or use existing waypoint and make "like if" ? Brgdske7aa2pv

The JS41 handles STARs just fine. Let's keep this separate from GPS-based RNAV discussion to keep it simple. Lot's of STARs are not GPS based. Your area may not have published STARs, which are generally only found in an around major terminal areas. Your flight plan would typically end at a nearby navaid or fix that may double as an IAF (initial approach fix) and there's simply no transition from enroute to terminal, which is all a STAR really is. You can create your own sidstars. A tutorial used to be available from Terry Yingling's site planepath.com but I just noticed he is offline. Let me know if you want to pursue this, but be advised it takes several days to figure it out on your own.

Well, i try this morning, just have to put the waypoint after the last waypoint of my FPL with the correct level like on the approach plates and that's it !!!Not like real STAR but it's OK for me. I can arrive in the right plan at the right level Anyway, if someone have an idea of creating SID/STAR and add it to the Navigraph/Navdata/Proc, or PMDG/sidstar, yes i'am interested !!!! The nice thing of J41's FMC is the ability to add waypoints on the fly. Plop in a name it doesn't recognize and it lets you put in the Lat/Lon. For me, if I plan on flying a RNAV approach into an airport not in Navigraph's database (ie: most of Canada) I just have to do it enroute. Most charts have the Lat/Lon anyways.
