Numerous freezes

Featured Replies

Ok, I have had issues the past few days with my FSX freezing! I have done everything except re-install Windows (including using REVO to uninstall FSX and any add-ons). He is my computer specs:Velocity Micro Edge Z40Intel i7-2600K 3.40GHz8GB RamnVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPUWindows 7 64bitI want to assume that it has something to do with Radar Contact, but the freezes are extremely random, and will even occur if I do not have RC running. I have d/l and installed the updated UIAutomationCore.dllThis problem has only started occurring in the past couple of days. Only thing different that I have done in the past few days from previous flights is that I am now flying in Europe instead of the USA (is there a known issue with this? I couldn't locate any). Here are some of the event logs:///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////Log Name: ApplicationSource: Application HangDate: 11/1/2011 12:34:56 PMEvent ID: 1002Task Category: (101)Level: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: FunComputerDescription:The program fsx.exe version 10.0.61637.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. Have you tried uninstalling Radar Contact 4 and then seeing if this fixes the problem? Do you have your system overclocked? It appears to me to be a problem with activation. If FSUIPC is not activated properly, this could cause Radar Contact 4 not to operate properly. Uninstall Radar Contact 4 and FSUIPC and see if this fixes the problem. It's also possible that your registry was not cleaned when REVO uninstalled FSX. Whenever FSX is uninstall (and Acceleration and all Addon's), you should run a registry cleaner to make sure all the FSX entries are removed from the registry too. I did a Google search and found that REVO does not clean the registry. Also make sure there are no remnants of FSX in your system directories. Delete these folders manually once FSX is uninstalled. Disable UAC when reinstalling FSX/Acceleration/RC4.Best regards,Jim

Jim,Nope, computer is not overclocked on anything. I am currently re-attempting my flight from London to Paris. If it freezes during the flight, I will obviously uninstall Radar Contact. If I make it there no issue, I will uninstall it and fly some to see if the issue is resolved. I tried CCleaner as well to clean the registry when I did my massive uninstall...I guess something is still stuck in there somewhere. Gotta love the awesome Microsoft products!

FSX is an old, old game as well as Radar Contact. Hopefully things will be better with Microsoft Flight. The "Side by Side" error is a system thing. Not related to FSX. You need the latest dotnet program that developers use to tell how a program should be installed. You need the latest Microsoft Visuals C++ Redistributables, especially those published back in 2005. I know FSX installs some 2005 MSV's and PMDG installs them for their programs. Otherwise, you have to go on the Internet and get the others. I know there was a required update to one of the 2005 MSV's in order for FSX to work properly. Your Windows Update program should update these automatically (or manually if you have this option on).Best regards,Jim

Same for .NET redistributables (service packs and patches).Cheers,- jahman.

I'm not holding my breath on that one...plus when they create it they will have it designed to use hardware that is three years out, and three years out we will have more issues with the old game not working properly with the new systems...My flight to Paris had no hang ups, but my flight to Helsinki froze about every 10 minutes. After reading on the post a few down from this one, I just let it sit and it unfroze...this is by far the longest 3 hour flight in the history of mankind...How can I tell if all the Redistributables are up-to-date and that I have the correct ones? Also, would it help to run FSX and RC in compatibility mode?

Enable Windows Update! (And do a quick defrag on your c: HDD after any updates...)Cheers,- jahman.

I agree with Jahman's recommendation plus I'll add that you need to read the excellent guide on setting up FSX and tuning it by NickN - http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html . Yes, the topic is old but he keeps it up-to-date with the latest info. At the beginning he has recommendations for updating the redistributables.I have to agree with you on the comment that Microsoft Flight will be developed for hardware 3 years out but the new Intel Chipsets and Nvidia/ATI video cards make it a bit easier than the situation back in 2006 when FSX was first released. Hopefully Microsoft won't fire the team like they did with FSX and will provide continuous SP's to keep the product up-to-date. I have less CTD's when I keep my flights down to short ones, maybe an hour and 30 minutes at the max. I think longer flights increase the chances for system overheating and subsequent crashes. The fact your system is freezing then unfreezing after a few minutes indicates to me that your sliders or settings are set too high (no current system can continuously run at max settings). You might also need one of the tweaks suggested in the link I provided above.Best regards,Jim

By chance did you just install service pack 1 for NGX. I've been having the same thing happen to me and it seems that it started right after SP1.
