Distance of contact with ATIS

Featured Replies

Hello, is there a way to increase the distance of contact of the ATIS? Indeed, the 30 nm are too just to prepare effectively with the arrival runway, arrival STAR and approach to get into the FMC!In good coopSylvainWell forget this, just have to listen ATIS freq on com 2 !!!RgdsSyR

COM2 shouldn't have anything to do with it. Radio reception is radio reception. Some ATIS have a further service volume because they have a higher power transmitter (RW). In FSX, I think it's a certain distance across the board.

Well, so how to have better range ?SyR

The ATIS in MSFS is about as helpful as the default ATC, not much resemblence to real world. Your STAR should be a part of the flight plan which you filed on departure, you can get the wx in a variety of ways depending on your wx addons. The STAR will not be provided in the ATIS.Typical ATIS check is done before center hands you off to approach which happens about 40 nm out descending through 10000 (can vary a lot), real world about 60 nm.

Onde thing you can do is to purches Activ Sky ect any other weather engine. You will not get an ATIS, but at least you will know the metar of your arrival airport and then calculate what runway in use, pressure and so on.
