November 17, 201114 yr I searched all over for this and still have not found the answer to my question. When you flare in the md-11 on landing what is the average pitch in degrees? Paul Deemer
November 18, 201114 yr For a standard Flaps 35 ILS approach and a G/S of 3.00°, the body angle will be between 4.2 -5.6° nose up depending on CG %MAC.You want to arrest the rate of descent during the flare to below 600ft/min. Exactly what pitch up is required is a function of your landing speed and landing weight. Aim to touchdown with around 300ft/min or less and you shouldn't bounce. As soon as weight is transferred to the main gear the ground spoilers should activate and you can arm the reversers. Full 3-engine reverse is only available after the nose gear have touched down...My guess is that you will pull the nose up an additional degree or two, but I am no longer current on the MD11X... need to get back in and log a few hours again!Andrew Andrew Entwistle
November 18, 201114 yr Commercial Member You'll actually end up pitching it down slightly in the last few feet. And looking "all over" should include the manuals! In fact, that's probably the first place you should go. (The PDFs are searchable )FCOM: Procedures and Techniques (PT.30.2): FlareA slight flare of approximately 2 degrees at about 30-40 AGL. The note under it also explains a more "advanced" technique of lowering the nose about 1 degree just prior to touchdown. Kyle Rodgers
