February 2, 200422 yr I don't know if others have seen this or had this problem but after installing many scenery packages (Simflyer's, Lago, Aerosoft, etc.) as well as freeware I find FS2k4 constantly has to REBUILD THE DATABASE every time I start the sim (causeing much slower sim load times than need be). This should only happen once when installing new scenery, not every time the sim starts. Can anyone tell me what went wrong and/or what can be done to get things back to normal???Thanks to anyone who can help... February 2, 200422 yr I believe that is just how it is. Everytime you load FS9, it builds the data base or loads all possible sceneries. This is why I only install the most important or best looking sceneries. It is the same for all the aircraft you have in your hanger. The more you addon, the more time it takes to load everything. It doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong, it is working just fine. A bit slower now though.
February 2, 200422 yr You may have overlapping or double entries for files in your addon scenery. Start FS2004, select settings, scenery library and deselect all your addon scenery. Follow the instructions to close and restart FS2004. Once it is at the FS2004 Main Menu again, close FS2004. Restart FS2004 and ensure the recataloging didn't occur. If the recataloging did recur, you may have corrupted or dual scenery (*.bgl) files in your Addon SceneryScenery folder. Copy the entire ADDON SCENERY folder and place the copy elsewhere on your computer hardrive. Open the ADDON SCENERYScenery folder and delete all the files in this folder (Remember - you copied the entire ADDON SCENERY folder). Restart FS2004, it should recatalog, close FS2004. Restart FS2004, it should recatalog.Once you have it stabilized, start enabling the addon scenery files in the scenery library one at a time. You will restart FS2004 twice for each addon to ensure it only recatalogs once.Do the same for the files saved in the copy of the ADDON SCENERY folder. If you get two recatalogs, you know that the scenery just placed is corrupted or conflicts with another scenery file.Lastly, If scenery is placed directly in the ADDON SCENERYScenery and Texture folders, then they should not have an entry in the Scenery Library list, since the ADDON SCENERY folder is already in the Scenery Library list and scenery.cfg file.W. February 2, 200422 yr Does it matter if there are duplicate texture files in the addon/texture folder and the general fs9/texture folder?ThanksBlairCYOW
February 3, 200422 yr Thanks Sieffert... FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
February 3, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Yellow, If your FS2k4 constantly REBUILD THE DATABASE every time you start fs2004 you have problems, it should be only one time when you install the scenery that's fs2k4 rebuilt the database. After you restart fs2004 it will never happend again until you add another scenery.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
February 4, 200422 yr Thanks again Sieffert...:-jumpy Seems like I had two entries in my scenery library for Lago's Bologna. I deleted one that was only pointing to the FS9 directory and my problems are now solved...Great advice... I hope others see this that are having similar problems.Dillon:-wave FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
February 4, 200422 yr It may cause some minute slowdown of your system. There are several benefits to scenery designers and scenery users having one copy of texture files installed. For scenery designers, they don't need to include the extra (multiple copies) of the texture files in their zip files. All that is necessary is to accurately reference the necessary texture files available on most of the public flightsim sites. For scenery users, installing the most commonly used third party texture files one time reduces the amount of space needed to contain the flight simulation software. It may also eliminate some slow down of the flight simulation software trying to decide which texture file to use, i.e., main texture folder or multiple addon texture folders.I believe there are several Scenery Installation Programs that will search for duplicate texture files.W.
